I don't know if it had anything to do with Gaza, if the background stories they share on so isl media is correct.

But one must reach a certain level of desperation and despair to commit such act of self sacrifice.

No, this is methodical, mechanical brutality and extermination. The human factor has been forsaken in favor of the same frame of mind which created the death camps.
