I gave Thunar File Manager a really good try. But Nautilus is far superior. In Nautilus I can do recursive search - basically go to a folder and start typing and I can find a file regardless if that folder has thousands of files and folders. And it is super fast. Thunar implemented this feature only recently (am amazed it took so long for such a basic function) and is yet to land in stable so I don't even get to use it.
Nautilus deals better with thumbnails and folders. Has proper scaling, proper drag and drop via touchscreens, and all that. Nautilus also has Nextcloud and MegaSync extensions that are essential for me. So I see what files are synced and what are not. Plus right click and share from Nautilus. Very handy.
Thunar is more 'hackable' tho, which is great. Meaning you can add custom right click menu scripts. Neat! And it is a bit faster. Looking forward for the next big release with recursive search. But for now I simply cannot use Thunar on my system when I can't properly search for files or integrate with nextcloud and megasync. For most users Thunar is fine...although without proper search functionality it is a pain in the ass. Anyways lets see the new Thunar whenever it will be available...
