For some unknown reason my @fosstodon account stopped working on #Fedilab, I tried logging out of the app but now I can't log back in, when I select the fosstodon instance on Fedilab and hit continue it doesn't open up the login page like it should. I even tried reinstalling the app from #Fdroid but the issue persists.

@kev @mike did you guys make any changes to the server these past few days? @apps do you have any idea what might be causing the issue here? 🤔

(I'm now forced to use the webapp)

Rokosun reshared this.

in the meantime why don't you try another app, like #trunks or #megalodon ? or any number of other android foss apps .. just to test if Fedilab has something to do with it
in reply to LPS

@lps good idea, I'll try installing a different app now.

@lps I installed tusky from Fdroid now, and although it took some time for it to load the Fosstodon login page I was able to successfully login there. So its probably an issue with #Fedilab specifically, but I've been using that app for a very long time now and everything used to work fine until now. @apps any idea what might be causing this?

@lps
Ok folks, I think I figured out the issue here. I was able to login with #Fedilab after connecting to a VPN, so my theory is that because of some regional differences my internet connection with #Fosstodon server became slower than usual, and Fedilab's http request timeout must've been lower than Tusky's making it only wait for a few seconds before giving up on the connection. @apps would be nice if you can make fedilab more tolerant to low bandwidths & high latencies
in reply to Rokosun

I'd doubt that (hopefully I'm right). I'd suggest to make sure that you have revoked all Fedilab related tokens. Then give your instance's database some time to purge the deprecated stuff. Mastodon (Sidekiq) queues quite a lot of processes sometimes especially on larger instances. Then try again to authorize your new Fedilab install. Keep us informed. ✌️

I think I figured out the issue, using a VPN solved my problem - https://fosstodon.org/@futureisfoss/110701476238899498

I don't want to always enable my VPN every time I open my social media app, so it'd be nice if you could make fedilab more tolerant of high latency situations. Thanks for your replies and all the work you do for the app 🙏 fedilab has always been my favorite fediverse client 🙂

Did you revoke the old API access token under Mastodon Settings/Account/Authorized applications ?
in reply to Fedilab Apps

no I didn't do anything on the web settings, but if that might cause the issue then I'll try removing old access tokens. Thanks for the quick response.

I removed some of the old access access tokens that I don't need anymore, but I still can't connect to Fosstodon from Fedilab. I'll try using some other mastodon app to test if it has something to do with my server or not.

Just tried the step by step and it works on our end.
Have you tried in the login page to tap on three dots and use the built-in browser?
Also make sure there are no proxy (also in the three dots).
in reply to Fedilab Apps

I've tried with and without the built-in browser, and no I haven't set up any proxy inside fedilab, everything works fine when I'm on VPN but without it I wasn't able to login to Fosstodon.
in reply to Rokosun

And once logged in with the VPN, it works correctly without?
in reply to Fedilab Apps

No, unfortunately it still requires a VPN for me to load new content, without a VPN I'm only able to view previously cached data.

Switching between WiFi or mobile data changes something?

in reply to Fedilab Apps

I just tested it by turning on the wifi hotspot of another device and connecting to it from my phone, surprisingly the issue still persists. One thing to note here is that both phones use the same ISP, tomorrow I'll try connecting to another phone with a different ISP, to see if it connects better/faster with fosstodon. I'm sure this has something to do with the connectivity between my device and fosstodon servers, but for some reason tusky handles the situation better than fedilab does.
in reply to Rokosun

I think it's a matter of timeout between two apps.
in reply to Fedilab Apps

I also feel the same, timeout or something related to connectivity is different between fedilab & tusky.

I still can't see the notification for your last message on fedilab in its notification tab, if I try to refresh then it'll keep buffering but nothing loads. If I connect to a VPN and then refresh the notification loads.
