If you have a website, it's a really good idea to put a link to it in your profile! Many people click on website links in profiles to find out more about the account.

When you're adding your website's link to your profile, remember to include https:// at the beginning so that the link will be clickable.

If you want to get really fancy, you can verify your website link which makes it turn green on your profile, and proves you're the owner of the site:

@JamesTDG

It should be possible on any platform that lets you add custom HTML.

Alternatively, if the platform allows you to add links to your social media accounts, if they add rel="me" to their link format that will make it work too.

By the way, this green thing is based on what was supposed to be a global standard for verifying links to other accounts, unfortunately Facebook, Twitter etc refused to play ball for some reason. But maybe Newgrounds might listen?

I'm an unpaid volunteer who runs five websites and five accounts helping people use Mastodon and the wider Fediverse. I pay all the bills for them every month.

If you want to help these sites & accounts keep going, you can buy me a coffee at:

โžก๏ธ ko-fi.com/fedithing

(No registration, choose any amount, all currencies work.)

...or alternatively become a patron at:

โžก๏ธ liberapay.com/FediThing

All support greatly appreciated! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello! I was unable to pick the currency, but I donated a little something anyway!
in reply to Claire

Thank you so much! ๐Ÿ™ Very generous of you, thanks! This makes a big difference, the sites and accounts can keep going because of you and people like you.

The currency is shown in euros on the ko-fi website, but your bank will automatically convert it to your own currency when you donate. Your bank should have its own currency exchange rate calculator on its website, but if it doesn't you can get a rough estimate from third party sites like xe.com/currencyconverter

I really wish news sites, when writing about something about Austen, stopped giving her biography. ESPECIALLY British papers. Sure, some people donโ€™t know the history of Jane, but for peteโ€™s sake, thatโ€™s why Google exists! (At least the author didnโ€™t start the article with, โ€œItโ€™s a truth universally acknowledgedโ€ฆโ€ Small mercies.)

Around 4000 years ago, a dog left its pawprints in this Sumerian brick :

Sumerian Clay Brick with a Dog's paw prints (2112-2000 BC), from ziggurat at Ur; Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq).

According to scholars, around 2100 BC, a dog walked across this brick as it lay drying in teh sun when it was being made. Brick is stamped with an cuneiform inscription which tells that "Ur-Nammu, king of Ur, has built his temple for Nanna, his Lord. Also built city wall of Ur for him."

Animals are the same across time. They'll go where they want when they want. The rest of the world should adapt to them.

Lord Howe Island

Five years after a massive effort to remove invasive mice and rats from Lord Howe Island, the unique ecosystem is experiencing what is being called "an ecological renaissance" as the endangered flora and fauna recovers.

Lord Howe Island woodhens were reduced to only 30 individuals in the 70s due to egg predation from the invasive rodents, but in just the last five years the population has jumped from 200 to over 2,000.

I watched a Tom Scott video form a while back where they've been doing similar in NZ to great effect. It just shows that throwing our hands up and saying "we can't do anything" should never be accepted ๐Ÿ˜
