Castello di Avio in the north of Italy is a medieval castle, which dates back to the 11th Century AD.

It has several rooms with old frescoes painted in 14th Century AD, and three lines of walls and five towers. One of them - the so-called Torre della Picadora was the place for executions. People were hanged there.

The half fish-half horse Eros, which is called Hippocampus in Greek mythology, is claimed to be the one and only such mosaic in the world.

This copper alloy stand, dating from Early Dynastic I Mesopotamia (2900-2700 BC), takes the form of a Markhor goat.

The intricately designed piece features a goat supporting a complex superstructure, showcasing the advanced craftsmanship of the time. The stand likely served both a functional and symbolic purpose in Mesopotamian society.

If you're joining a server and it asks you why you want to join, please don't overthink it! 🙂

These questions are usually there just to stop spam bots, and as long as you give a human answer you're fine. Server admins usually approve sign-up requests very soon afterwards.

Admins are unable to tell you all this themselves because the question cannot currently be customised. (By the way, admins who want to customise it can give a thumbs up at github.com/mastodon/mastodon/i…)

not sure if it's fixed already, but I once wrote a pretty long text, after which I got some "max 400 characters" (or something like that); maybe just stop people from inputting more than that amount of text to start with?

(and then I got rejected partly because my intro text was too brief (after I shortened it) so I guess admins aren't aware of the short max length either 😁)

web! on firefox. this was I think ~8 months ago btw! not sure it still applies.

@bazkie

Darn, that is kind of a bad bug, yeah. I guess they weren't expecting people to write a lot.

This is another reason the customising of the question would be important, they could mention this.

It hasn't been fixed, I'll report it on the github.

"(and then I got rejected partly because my intro text was too brief (after I shortened it) so I guess admins aren't aware of the short max length either 😁)"

Geez that's harsh! Sorry about that. I'll try to report this.

thank you!!

(it wasn't so bad in the end btw in this case; I ended up pretty happy not joining that particular instance, long story :P)

in reply to bazkie, bonkwave superstar

@bazkie I totally overthought my answer. After getting the "too long" response I copied what I'd written to a webserver, put a link to it and wrote a TLDR summary. I'm absolutely certain the mod's eyes rolled so hard they were spinning in their head 😂
in reply to Abram Kedge

@AbramKedge hahaha glad I'm not the only one bumping into the character limit! and the way you solved it is elegant 😁
in reply to Fedi.Tips 🎄

@AbramKedge thank you, that seems accurate! (with the disclaimer that I'm not perfectly sure if it's still invisible on the admin's side that there's this character limit)

@alice @Yuvalne

Thanks for that perspective. Yeah, that would be yet another good reason for having a customised message when asking people for reasons, so you could explain your requirements.

Hopefully the customisation gets implemented at some point 🤞

This is more of a brief bio of Austen with heavy info on her time in Hampshire. But it does talk about that even with Jane living through numerous wars, she didn’t write a single word about it.
