Shoutout to all UK ocean scientists! This third FMRI podcast is the most interesting so far - really getting into the details of what the future could look like. This is going to affect ALL of us, so please do listen to the podcast and have your say. The fourth episode will be focussed on responding to your thoughts (we've got a bunch already but more is better), so do send your ideas, concerns, questions and comments!

This is also for anyone who uses UK marine research infrastructure - geologists, atmospheric scientists, polar scientists etc. Please do help spread the word, and feel free to post about your responses to the issues in the podcast - the aim of this is to stimulate discussion.

Closer look at the recent record high global mean temperature over land areas (where we live) during the month of April... A clear climate change signal that impacts us all.

Now here's a map view of temperature departures averaged during the last 6 months. The largest anomalies were over the Arctic and into Eurasia.

Thank you, that's sweet. However, I didn't install it, nor did it scare me.

I was pointed to it by someone, and didn't need it as I already have an alarm on my phone, but read the small text anyway out of curiosity. I actually thought it was quite funny. Although I agree with you it's funny in a harrowing way, just as capitalism almost always is.

The app is recommended by some therapists. I think those therapists may be in need of some therapy themselves.

Also I REALLY recommend everyone to read the Terms Of Service (especially about privacy & costs) before installing ANY app. It's quite unbelievable what people will install without checking, and what commercial app stores (Google, Apple) will allow.

Last month observed temperature anomalies more than 5°C above the 1981-2010 average across parts of Siberia. Elsewhere, most areas were also anomalously warm, except around the Fram Strait/Greenland Sea and Hudson Bay.

Here’s an image I captured yesterday morning—a northern cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) in mid-flight, taking off from a stand of trees. The way I’ve framed it gives the image a subtle 3D effect, adding depth and movement to the scene.

Apparently #PerplexityAI CEO is annoyed that people are sharing that article where he is quoted saying that their browser will track everything users do to sell more ads.

> “That’s kind of one of the other reasons we wanted to build a browser, is we want to get data even outside the app to better understand you,” Srinivas said.

This is that article, in case you'd like to share it:

As summer in the Northern Hemisphere approaches, it is important to keep in mind how temperatures are changing... 🌡️

Shifting distribution to the right ➡️ increasing societal risks from extreme heat.

The driver? Humans... The burning of fossil fuels.

In Medieval Germany, they had what was called Marriage Duels, where a husband and wife could physically fight each other.

To make things fair, the husband had to stand in a hole with one hand tied behind his back, holding a sword in his free hand, while the woman hit him with a bag of rocks.

I'm going to bring this up every time someone has a problem with No Fault Divorce.

Mark Zuckerberg wanted to fly his helicopter from his gigantic superyacht to go skiing on Swedish mountains and offered villagers tens of thousands, but they flat out refused, saying the noisy chopper would disturb their reindeer

"That billionaires would fly private jets to luxury yachts, then board helicopters to chase the last snow-covered peaks in Europe—while attempting to silence Indigenous voices—is being seen as a microcosm of global environmental inequality."

I'm wanting to immigrate to Tromsø. Way north. And silly American me is excited for a reindeer petting experience. I want to pet a reindeer. Why can't people just enjoy that? Why all this outrageous bullshit? I don't blame them. I'm moving to Alaska as a bootcamp for that because I enjoy quiet solitude....and reindeer.
