Shout out to @radiofreefedi for introducing me to so many awesome new Fedi #artists in so many genres. I usually can only listen for 20 minutes at a time as I’m doing chores, and it’s great to hear such a wide variety of #music that I just couldn’t get from a commercial station that only plays 2-3 genres, or even streaming algorithms that still can’t understand that I crave novelty, not just more of the same. And no ads filling up my precious time! #FediMusic

Tune in at radiofreefedi.net/

Good night/morning Americas, morning Europe, afternoon Asia, evening Aussie and hullo NZ.

We are having a listen to #radioFreeFedi main channel and have the chat open at

party.radiofreefedi.net

in case whatever stage of your weekend could use some friendly chat and some fun tune discovery.

We can talk about some of the new things coming. Maybe some artists will stop through and say hi. Maybe we can trade secrets for the softest ever shirt laundering. Or just hang and listen. All welcome.

#Antarctic sea ice remains on its own this year compared to any other July in our satellite record. Keep in mind when looking at this graph that the y-axis interval is 1,000,000 km². This is a massive deviation from the previous record for the date.

The extent of global sea ice is more than 1 million square kilometers below the previous record for the current date. This year is particularly a result of the anomalous Antarctic.

Larger seasonal cycle graphics updated at zacklabe.com/global-sea-ice-ex… (satellite era from 1979-2023). Data from nsidc.org/data/seaice_index.

Last month observed below average air temperatures near the South Pole. Elsewhere, the largest warm anomalies were found in the Northern Hemisphere.

Plot shows zonal-mean surface air temperature anomalies, where latitude = x-axis (not scaled by distance). Data from GISTEMPv4 at data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/.

Relevant to my previous post, here is another article about the tragic ongoing loss of biodiversity.

TITLE -- "Biodiversity: State of Emergency"

Key points:

◘ By 2050, 38-46% of animal and plant species could be wiped out from the planet.

◘ Of particular concern are Central and South America, sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia, which are more vulnerable to soil impoverishment.

◘ Within 30 years, the number of people living in arid regions could rise from 2.7 to 4 billion, increasing the risk of migration crises.

◘ Land degradation and climate change, leading to declining crop yields and social and economic instability, are likely to force 50-700 million people to migrate by the middle of the century.
