In the BBC's regional lunchtime news we had a journalist doing his piece from Blackpool, where he met someone with a Brazil football top, and he did the jounalistic "Did you know that" question, so I have written to BBC Northwest Today
Hi
In his piece at lunchtime Yunnus Mulla used the journalistic "Did you know that Blackpool is warmer than Rio de Janeiro?" throw away question to a person he was talking too.
Firstly the UK is in its summer season, and places in the North West should be having temperatures around the 19Celsius level, not 8 to 12 degrees above this.
Secondly, Rio is approx 4 hours behind UK time, and 20 degrees in the morning is not too bad in Winter (Rio's current season).
Thirdly, Rio is only about 2,800 miles from the equator, whereas Blackpool is more than double that at 5700 miles! The nearest place that is on a similar latitude to Blackpool are The Falkland Islands, and current temperatures there is about 15 degrees below that in Rio!
Thanks for reading!
