Our son has just told us that the first house we bought, in 1976, a mid-terrace 3 bedroom house for about £4000, has been just put up for sale (our son's school friend owns it) for £140,000!!!
The Bank of England Inflation calculator page says that the current equivalent cost (June 2026) is £27,775 - Change in value: 594.4% - Average annual inflation: 3.92%
