Need for Alt Text

I am on a friendica instance that allows me to see images with #AltText (or rather not see images WITHOUT AltText), because there is a setting which says
"Hide pictures with empty alternative text (Don't display pictures that are missing the alternative text.)"
So this is what a visually impaired person would receive - how do you describe the image that has (presumably) been posted?

p.s. If there is no alt text shown here it is because I have posted from my laptop. I will check on my mobile and update the image and text there!

It is Easter Monday, and Preston celebrates with egg rolling on Avenham Park. I remember, as a child of the 50's, we rolled our hand decorated hard boiled eggs. I don't remember chocolate eggs until later!

It is found on a 3, 700 year Hittite pot found in Turkey, with the classic two dots and curved line.

@attoparsec I don’t think this is a very good take. Primarily because the people making that argument are being disingenuous to start with, so pointing out the contradiction is a waste of energy and plays into their rhetorical tactics, but also because, at least in the US, their obvious reply is “that’s why we need to drill more domestically”.

As age-verification bullshit becomes more common, I am determined to simply not participate in any service or video game that requires it. The day I see the prompt, I simply leave.

Maybe the government’s hope is that I stop participating in society, but I assure you that I will not. I’ll find or build alternatives, and refuse to comply with bad law.

I hope you will, too.

And as a silver lining, maybe the weird internet we end up creating as a result will suck less than the current one.
