I have an MG ZS Tropy which I am quite happy with! Yesterday I used the MG i-Smart app to schedule charge the car and had no problem. Today, after a drive I put the car on the home charger and tried to set the app to start charging immediately, but it wouldn't because the app was saying that it prohibits VPN! I had this problem earlier in the year, but it was rectified in May, looks like they have updated/backdated the app!

I was talking about data theft in general just yesterday with some work colleagues on a Signal group chat (yeah, I got them to ditch WhatsUp). One started moaning about how all his groups are on WhatsUp and anyway, all this data theft stuff is a good thing. No one replied. Eventually he said that he had used Google to look for tickets to go to Sri Lanka to visit family and as soon as he hit search, offers started popping up everywhere, even on apps that weren't even open, for cheaper flights. So he saved money. Without having to bother searching. But at what cost? I tried to explain but sometimes, when you see them sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting naaa ne naaaa nahhh repeatedly all you can do is kick and scream.
@RosePuckey The thing is that those flights aren't even necessarily cheaper, it's just whoever payed the algorithm the most to get their "cheap" offer put in front of him...

I expected this under the Tories and under Starmer (a Tory in all but name). A little surprised it's continuing to happen under Burnham, but he is proving himself to be a Starmer continuation with better PR. Labour has been entirely captured by its far right Tory element; anyone who continues to vote Labour should consider themselves a Tory Tool.
I don't think I was ever quite that complacent, preferring to follow the maxim that "the price of liberty is constant vigilance" which needs to be allied with action, but you are quite correct. It's the wrong way round. And continuing down this path will inevitably lead to a place in which very very few wish to find themselves.

I have just had to get a new TV and before I could access ITV I had to sign in to my account! I know I do not pay money to them for the service, but surely needing an email address to access the service is a form of payment? Radical policies need to be considered here. There should be more focus investing in job creation in sectors we actually need e.g. food, water, houses, clothing, public transport, health, social care not retail and tourism. Also we need to stop focusing on work being a priority. What about family and leisure? We should be reducing working hours and the retirement age.
Perhaps some mechanism to 'encourage' companies to pay people properly would have many benefits - i.e. not paying minimum wage with the assumption the state will provide benefits to allow people to live a basic life. If most people had meaningful work with fair pay, they would be able to spend more, in turn boosting the economy. Or am I missing something?

I have a secret suspicion that the end-goal of neoliberalism is to rebuild Britain as an 18th century society driven by religion and class.
The wealthy and privately-educated upper and upper-middle classes will of course need servants to cater for their every need, which means that many more working class people will need to accept a life working in the 'service industry'.
The government will need to increase the minimum wage then, and start employing more people itself. The marginal cost of employment for the government is only the difference between benefits and their wage. More and more human employment will inevitably be government funded, and this has to include health and social care.
I'd like to see UBI introduced at a level where everyone in poverty is able to pay their rent, energy and water bill, phone and Internet, save for a holiday, eat healthily, afford prescriptions etc without going without or having to deal with the DWP
