Made a blog post about some photo effects/filters and also created a page on my site dedicated to some of my favorites photos.

I've been working on a novel. I've never actually written fiction before so no gauruntee of quality, but it's also free to read & distributed. It's mostly scifi(ish) with some fantasy elements as well.

I've got an ActivityPub account I put updates on @Untitled Novel but the website also has RSS & other protocols I share new updates on. Web version is ad free and tracker free minus Cloudflare.

Mini rant time:
So I wanted to have a photo carausel on my blog I manage with Hugo. Well, it's not supported by Hugo so I'll just get a shortcode, simple right? One didn't work and one didn't work with remote images, so I'll just make my own. Can't be that hard.
I made a bunch of "code" that failed, tried to take my failing code to Dolphin 2.2.1 Mixtral and Chat GPT who couldn't fix my broken code. At this point hours have gone by.
Then I get this bright idea 💡. Hey chat GPT "make me a Hugo shortcode for a photo carousel". Bam, done. All I had to do was give it a second prompt to add a carousel ID (so I can have multiple on the same page) and tweak the image size to be relatively to the screen size (2 characters manually changed). Seems to work flawlessly.

Anyone know what's up with the Firefox fork Fennec? I got a warning the other day that there were security vulnerabilities in the app, and upon checking when the last version was compiled it was in August. The source cide link just takes me to Mozilla's repos.
Disabled the app and switched browsers for the moment, but wanted to know if anybody knows what's going on with it. If not, anybody know of any other Android Firefox forks that cut Mozilla things out?

Made a blog post about local/libre LLMs, specifically using them for translation, proofreading, summarization, and transcribing.
At this point we all know how LLMs can generate text, and I’m guessing that everybody reading this knows some relatively lightweight libre LLMs can be …nate.mecca1.net

Mozilla announced it will shut down its Mastodon server, Mozilla.social, on December 17, allowing users to download their data or migrate to another instance.
This decision follows Mozilla’s strategic shift to focus on Firefox and AI, scaling back on other projects like VPN, Relay, and its involvement in the fediverse.
Mozilla.social had only 270 active users at the time of the announcement, and Mozilla plans to take a more modest approach to participating in the Mastodon ecosystem in the future.

I heard about Google's #NotebookLM #AI so I gave it a try. Uploaded the #blog post

And had it generate a podcast. Took like 10 seconds and the podcast it made sounded really engaging. Unfortunately, lol, it was very inaccurate. You can listen to the output below if you want:

Finished writing a #blog post about making a fur hat. A bit different from my normal posts, but a fun project that I thought was worth sharing.
In my post about EDC I rambled on about hats for a bit, and a couple weeks ago I decided to try making one myself. I didn’t initially plan on writing a …nate.mecca1.net
Thought I would make an #introduction post. Was previously on Nerdica.net, though unfortunately it had a SQL database corrupted previously and then has been having some downtime lately so I've migrated here.
I sometimes write blog posts or work on occasional projects like a janky multi-protocol python client. Otherwise I mostly just share the occasional article I find interesting/amusing or random thought that comes to mind.
I'm also on Nostr @Nate you should be able to follow my account there on both Nostr & Activity Pub, but sometimes things like '@s' or DMs are janky hence accounts on both protocols.

But I'm afraid if they do that, it'll be trivial to layer-8-DoS them by sending a ton of LLM-generated abuse reports...

Instead of going through the process of cease and desist, Brand Shield decided that reporting phishing and malware to the domain registrar would get the content removed faster. This should honestly sue Funko Pops, the registrar, and Brand Shield for this absurd situation.
