When discussing rising #electricity #prices, the report says the accounts "claimed" this was the case. But it really is happening, as noted by Bloomberg, which found that prices have risen by up to 267% in areas near data centers.
Now those nasty Chinese are even using the truth against the decent American #people, who are used to nothing but #lies from #Trump.
OpenAI writes that the now-banned accounts were "supporting covert influence operations that promoted narratives in an attempt to manipulate a legitimate debate about American AI and wider...

🔴 PRIVACY / BANK TRACKING @dangoodin 💬 The tracking of your hourly whereabouts, your purchases and your contacts seems like a high price to me. YMMV.
🔴 💸 RISK OF CASH @iagox86 💬 ... I imagine the risk of robbery balances is higher than the transaction cost (at least in their mind).
🔴 💸 NO NEED PROTECTION FOR SMALL ITEMS @femme_mal 💬 I don't need the protections a card offers on purchases of fresh vegetables at the local farm market but the purchase of hard goods like a new refrigerator certainly merits them.
🔴 💳 Card Convenience @jawnsy 💬 Convenience is why SCADA systems are accessible on the Internet 🫣
🔴 💳 + 💸 Cash and Card @lxskllr 💬 I'm cash everywhere aside from online purchases.
🔴 Loyalty Card = Tracking @lauren 💬 Given the widespread use of loyalty cards to get the best prices, even paying with cash doesn't stop tracking.
🔴 Marketing should be illegal? @kmstrube81 💬 I wonder if computers were a mistake and if marketing should be illegal.
🔴 TRUST #BIGTECH? @lpar 💬 I trust Apple more than I trust random merchants, though. I wouldn't trust Google, since they're an advertising company.
🔴 SMALL BUSINESS SAME AS BIG BUSINESS (just smaller scale?) @aapis / mastodon.world/@aapis/11384487… 💬 uh yes, duh? This hypothetical woman is trying to profit, yes? She’s trying to make her #business a success, yes? So are the Starbucks execs, the only difference is scale. If this woman had the power and #capital available to Starbucks, what would be different about her stores? #Capitalism
🔴 CAN'T TRUST GOVERNMENT @dangoodin 💬 ... the #government in my country is 100% dysfunctional ... Self remedies are the best sort of remedies. #DIY ... Expecting #governments to provide all the answers is also a losing battle. infosec.exchange/@dangoodin/11…
🔴 GOVERNMENTS FOR THE LONG-TERM WAY @wavefunction 💬 Governments are the only means we have to actually "win" the battle. If it's you versus a corporation, you're already losing. They will always have more power and resources than an individual and will always spend more #money than you to make it their way.
🔴 RISK AS AN EXCUSE? @dangoodin 💬 The people complaining about having cash stolen are usually the same ones carrying an $800 phone in their pocket.
🔴 #CASH NEEDED #LEGAL PROTECTION @shansterable 💬 In 2023, the King County council in #Washington state voted to require #retail businesses to accept cash because it was becoming such an issue.
🔴 CASH COST TIME / ACCOUNTING AFTER @jarek 💬 Handling cash costs money too... Accounting... translates to employee #time... I think your local #merchant is naive. + 💬 ...(costs of processing cash, costs of #bookkeeping, ease with which cash can be skimmed off by employees, risk of robbery, etc). @thomasareed
🔴 SMALL CONSIDERATIONS HARD TO COUNT @bluGill 💬 It is hard to figure out what the real cost of cash is as so many of those things seem like little and so you don't count.
🔴 Tipping considerations... @thomasareed 💬 #tipping a lot more personal, private, and potentially more deliberate.
🔴 CASH FOR THOSE WITH NO BANK 🏦 💬 ...businesses that don't accept cash are being #discriminatory against people who don't have access to banks accounts, such as homeless, extreme low income, or newcomers to our country. It's a way of "keeping the riffraff out" their businesses. #discrimination @OhOkKay
@dangoodin@infosec.exchange Increasingly (but not yet substantially), vendors in my area (BC lower mainland) are declining to accept cash. The rationale, when one is offered, is that having cash on a premises increases the likelihood of a break-in.
TOKYO -- Japan will work with member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations on the development of large language models (LLM) for artificial intelligence, amid concerns about China's efforts to regulate AI in ways that critics say are a…
It is our #mistake. We should double check it. Not only double, but triple check it. One more thing I want to add is that people should not consider Google as the standard. #Google is just a search engine, and any person can post anything on it. Don't just believe it. Just cross check!
