Since Atlassian announced that they're going to collect all users' metadata to train their LLM (btw even Premium users can't opt out – only Enterprise), I checked what Atlassian means by "metadata".

I may be mistaken, but it looks like "metadata" actually includes some direct data: search queries, some ticket data, any frequently encountered data.

Not good news for trade secret owners.

After procrastinating a decision about which Kanban tool to use, I finally weighed all the available choices and landed on @vikunja

I think this was the first time that a software having their presence on Mastodon made part of my reasons to choose something. Another one is the integration with Home Assistant.

So far, so good. Haven't used it for more than a few minutes to create some fake tasks, but it's been nice. Now I need to figure out how to migrate from my old Kanboard.

Yeahbut if you get it wrong first time you'll need more tickets to fix it up later, which means more #Jira usage ticking up on the meter.

You can see whey they do it, can't you.

Our team is moving from Azure DevOps to #Jira. In learning to navigate the new shiny, I happen to hit the very prominently display AI-button “Improve Description” on an Epic. I watch in horror as it starts to omit details and re-write the customer’s detailed description of what they want IT to do here. Luckily, I know this epic because I've been involved earlier. This enables me to catch the subtle changes that significantly alters the intent and meaning of the original text.

The new text is fine, good grammar and 100% plausible sounding, but IT IS NOT CORRECT!!!

Anyone coming in cold to the ticket would not know and then we'd possibly build the wrong thing, or at the very least, waste a lot of time backtracking why the customer claims we're wildly off track.

Scary stuff this #AI.

Does anyone know of a good self-hosted Kanban board and/or project management software that works as similar to Jira as possible?

I know my question is going to make someone mad, but I just don't want to switch context way too much when managing my personal projects.

Something similar to Trello is also acceptable.

I currently use Kanboard, but the interface is way too limited. I understand their choices, but I would like something more rich/responsive/automated.

This week, we wrap up our 2-parter on Jira! (Part 1: techblows.net/5; Part 2: techblows.net/6) Hear about:

- The Atlassian founders' matching $100M houses
- How Jira turns its own failures into more sales
- Jira's special way of alienating us from our creativity and initiative

Why do a lot of modern Saas websites seem to take you to/through the marketing page when you're already a customer AND logged in??

Just take me to my dashboard darn it!

AWS does it, as does Jira? It's bonkers!

Open letter to the people who designed/built Jira…

I want to say very bad things but I’m trying to be a better person and speak more kind words than bad words but your product that I use only because it’s for my job makes me want to scream a little because OMFG stop please and revisit your UX because it needs so much help it’s so bad it hurts and I want some salve for my soul which is being crushed.

Sincerely,
Mark

Breaking free from the Atlassian Jira & Confluence lock-in. I'm excited to speak at @nextcloud Enterprise Day in #Copenhagen on October 22!

After March 28, 2029, #Jira Data Center licenses will expire.

Are you looking for a feature-rich alternative that also offers long-term on-premises solution?

In my session I will be talking about strong, European alternatives to the Atlassian suite. @openproject @xwiki & @nextcloud are mature, 100% #opensource tools, built in Europe and trusted worldwide.

Another new intrusive AI anti-feature popped up in Atlassian Jira today. I zapped it with uBlock Origin.

This is so much like when ads started flooding everything online, right down to the tools I'm using to de-clutter sites and webapps. At this point Jira is pimpled with terrible AI links nudged right next to legitimately useful features. Like it has acne, or maybe buboes.
