Miniature sideboard update for those who follow along. The sideboard is now completely assembled, sanded, and ready for polish. For ease of polishing I haven’t attached the top to its floating base. 1/3

What did I do? Well, I followed the arm build kit instructions and assembled the pieces (the raspberry pi, the webcam, and the arm).

I'm doing a lot of #woodworking because the whole system will be embedded in an oak cookie I'm sanding, staining, inlaying a chess board, and mounting on table legs.

And - chagrined as I am to say this on #fedi - I used AI tools to develop a UI for the project and the config tools to help me calibrate the board detection and arm calibration settings.

Depending on how you look at it, I did *none* of that work, or I did as much as a product manager can be said to do for writing specs, proposing solutions to problems, and testing (and I can hear the engineers protesting that these amount to the same thing)!

Ultimately I don't take credit for the code. But I do feel like the project has required a lot of effort, both technical and creative. I think it's something I'll be proud of.

Back to it. Almost done, just need to let the oil be and do the straps on the back. Heavily ground and sanded.

Here are a few photos of mikroflööt no. 14, made from elm from the wood behind our house with a very interesting natural grain pattern. It’s the smallest one I’ve made so far (9 cm long). The sound is a bit windier than the others I made. Finish: sandarac.

So, I was going to start practice on whittling Sunday. I slept well, so I pulled out my blade, tsropped it, put out my mess mat, best thinge ver by the way, and started. Discouraging first start but it is my *first* try. I already felt what itfeels like to go against thegrain and with. I even got acute curly shaving for my trouble, a thin piece from a corner as I started to get rid of the sharp angled edge on one face of a 2x2x2 cube. #Whittling #WoodCarving #WoodWorking

I have two mortises left to do in the legs of this bench. I've drill out about 95% of the waste. Now I just need to chisel it out to size and turn the round edges square.

This morning I finally cut the pieces for my bi-fold bathroom door (my own house). It is the biggest project I’ve tackled yet on the table saw. I don’t have enough space to cut door lengths inside, so needed to set this up outdoors (and take it all down again). I am physically tired, that stuff is heavy, but pleased with myself.
Now I need to wash and do some of the day-job.

I have an old SCM table saw that I bought second hand, and it doesn't come with a mitre gauge. Shouldn't be a problem, there is a huge range of after market gauges available, but for one thing: the channels in the bed are 25mm wide, not the much more common 19mm or 30mm. It's exactly 25mm, not 1 inch, I checked it with the calipers.
So do any woodwarking peeps know where I can get a mitre gauge and fence with a 25mm slider? Is this even a thing?

Does anybody know of woodworking fediverse groups? German, English, or Spanish. :-)

For those following my jig building progress. I have just watched this video which has a lot of useful tips and especially some guides on calibration. He also makes a handy rearguard for the sled that I think I will use just to prevent the blade coming through the back. Particularly on the small saw, it is tempting to lean over my work and I think a box like this would be very effective.

Making a shield for one of the spawn for halloween fun. All scrap and jazz on hand, but not jazz hands.

Hello societas - glad to find this pod. I collect and restore hand tools, mostly wooden planes and chisels from flea markets, and document the process of bringing them back to work. Sharpening is meditation; rust removal is cardio.

Work days I teach high school woodshop, which means I get paid to share the thing I love. Nights and weekends are for my own projects: a cedar garden bench this month, kitchen knives next.

Also into chess by mail, old maps, and identifying trees on my street. If you post about craftsmanship, teaching, or making things last, I would love to follow along.
