Diciamo chi è già un utente Friendica ha già a disposizione un ventaglio completo con tutte le opzioni possibili di Mastodon glitch-soc più altre funzionalità.
L'unico motivo per passare da Friendica a Mastodon glitch-soc è quello di avere meno opzioni e di semplificarsi un po' la vita 🤣

Serve per dare a Mastodon rimpiangere funzionalità di scrittura che oggi trovi facilmente su Friendica, Misskey, Firefish, Lemmy, etc
Ma con in più la compatibilità con le app per Mastodon

In tal caso hai due opzioni:
1) migrare dal vecchio account al nuovo seguendo la procedura di migrazione prevista da mastodon
2) mantenere entrambi gli account ed eventualmente esportare la lista dei profili che segui dal vecchio account e importarla sul nuovo
Se mantieni entrambi gli account puoi anche decidere di differenziali per tematiche (un account più generalista e uno più tematico), lingua (uno inglese e uno italiano) o altro (uno per pubblicare sulle comunità Lemmy e uno no)

La lunghezza dei messaggi non dipende dall'adozione del fork, ma ne è più che altro una conseguenza: infatti i 500 caratteri sono necessari per scrivere con il markdown, altrimenti ti giochi 200 caratteri già solo con la formattazione.
