Why has COVID been so much worse this summer? The health belief model has the answer

If you think COVID-19 was suddenly in the news a lot over the summer, you’re probably right.

Throughout August, outlets in both Canada and the United States ran headlines about high COVID levels, the summer surge of cases, timing of booster shots and reviving the use of face masks.

As numerous athletes tested positive for COVID at the Olympics in Paris, news outlets reminded Canadians that COVID is still a threat, and that summer cold symptoms might in fact be COVID.

The list of COVID news stories could go on and on, but what many experts seem to agree on is that this surge is a pretty big deal. In fact, Ashish Jha, dean of the Brown University School of Public Health predicts this wave might be the biggest summer surge since the virus started, according to an article in CNN.

The guy who gave me my shots gave me the advice to move the shot-receiving arm around a lot. Exercise it. I've been doing that and it seems to have helped. I hope it works for you, too.

From what I hear, stressed muscles generate a lot of growth hormone to help strengthen and repair itself quickly... and the rest of the body enjoys that too!

Good morning, friends. 🌻🌻🌻

6 September 2024

I've heard it said that you can't make up sleep, but I do it all the time. But that's what naps are all about. Well to be sure, I don't make it up, I actually do sleep. As a matter of fact, as soon as I am finished with this post, I'm going to do some sleep making up, I only slept about 6 hours last night and I'm owed a couple of more ... minimum. That will likely happen after mealtime though. It is 0625 now, mealtime is 0730, but Ben and Charlie start getting antsy about 0700. I got new hearing aids and when I wear them, I can hear the rain hit the house ... isn't that something. The sound of the rain also puts me to sleep. Hmmm ... am I coherent?

"Everyone thinks I like to sleep. It's not that I like to sleep, it's that I don't like to get up! There is a difference." - JC Chasez

Speaking of #AltText [segue], Primitive Technology makes videos with no talking at all, but has a description for everything in the closed-captions.

If someone made a #survivalGame based on this channel, it would be hardcore.

Maybe the American Chemical Society should change the "Better living through chemistry" motto to "Better loving through #chemistry." 🤔

@ScotttSee @AnguaDelphine @_L1vY_ I have a smart plug on my washing machine.

#HomeAssistant just sends me a notification when the power level is under a certain threshold. No need for a cloud and smart AI. It's just a 8€ Zigbee smart plug that can measure power levels.

Here’s Switchbot’s unannounced new video doorbell solution.

A camera embedded into a keypad that can stream to a separate video intercom inside your home, Switchbot’s first video doorbell solution also works as a keypad for its smart door locks.

Both components are quite large and bulky, but it's intriguing as an all-in-one solution for a video intercom. This is still a prototype; we expect to hear more about it next year.
