Yes, you can link videos within a Lemmy/Kbin thread that points to the video, just like you would with any other video link.
However, when it comes to interactivity/comments in order for this to happen a user needs to follow the channel, for example try following this @Blender
From the point you start following, it will pop up in your timeline like any other user and your comments to it will show up on their instance, just like a YouTube comment.
I have been able to post in a Lemmy community from an Mbin instance without having a Lemmy account, so the separate account limitation is not a universal limitation. Hence why I asked. In any case, I appreciate the answer.
I’ll also say that there is a privacy issue with this design. If I am in a video, my appearance, voice, & part of the world I am in are all revealed & subject to facial rec. I don’t generally want my biometrics to then be linked to my threadiverse accts.
So this limitation creates an burden of having to register and maintain more accounts. Registration is increasingly slow and tedious to fight bots, so we often have to write something about ourselves and possibly solve a captcha to create a new Lemmy account.
When it comes to the video, you could make it using your actual identity as you do on Youtube, no difference. Since it's only a peertube account there is no link to any of your other fediverse accounts ... which is why I prefer separate identities as well.
I would never touch Youtube. YT also blocks me anyway. Nor would I disclose my identity to peertube beyond what’s unavoidable as far as biometrics goes.
It would be useful if peertube would add the capability to post to Lemmy (as Kbin does). Until then, we have the burden of creating an extra kbin or lemmy acct just to add a link.

Georges Ibrahim Abdallah est un militant communiste libanais. En 1979 il participe à la création de la Fraction Armée Révolutionnaire Libanaise (FARL), organisation se déclarant communiste et anti-impérialiste dont il dirige les opérations en France. En 1982, les FARL revendiquent l’assassinat du lieutenant-colonel Charles R. Ray, attaché militaire américain à Paris, et de Yacov Barsimentov, deuxième conseiller à l’ambassade d’Israël, membre du Mossad. Des « actes de résistance armée » en réaction à l’agression militaire israélienne du Liban appuyée par les États-Unis [1]. C’est la défense utilisée par Georges Abdallah pendant son procès.
Une justice impérialiste
Arrêté et incarcéré en 1984, il n’est inculpé que de faux et usage de faux le 6 mars 1985. Les autorités américaines et israéliennes exercent de vives pressions afin de faire alourdir sa condamnation. La découverte d’une arme ayant servi aux assassinats dans une des planques des FARL conduit à son jugement par la cour d’assise spéciale pour complicité d’assassinat le 28 février 1987. Accablé par la presse (notamment par le Monde sous la plume d’un certain Edwy Plenel ! qui n’a reconnu que bien récemment avoir été trompé [2]) la cour le condamne à la perpétuité. En 1987 sort un livre confession dans lequel Jean-Paul Mazurier, avocat de Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, raconte qu’il travaillait en réalité pour la DGSE [3]. Pourtant la validité du procès ne sera pas remise en cause. Libérable depuis 1999 selon le droit français, entre 2004 et 2020 neuf de ses demandes de libération conditionnelle ont été refusées.
Le 21 novembre 2012 le tribunal d’application des peines prononçait un avis favorable à sa demande de libération auquel accède la chambre d’application des peines en la conditionnant à un arrêté d’expulsion. Laurent Fabius, ministre des Affaires étrangères, reçoit à l’époque un coup de téléphone de son homologue américaine Hillary Clinton, qui lui demande de ne pas lui rendre la liberté [4]. Manuel Valls, alors ministre de l’Intérieur, refuse de signer l’arrêté d’expulsion le 14 janvier 2013. La décision de libération est annulée en avril 2013 par la Cour de Cassation. Jacques Vergès son avocat dénoncera « le gouvernement des États-Unis qui oppose un veto intolérable à sa libération » [5] . En juin 2023, son nouvel avocat Jean-Louis Chalanset annonce faire une nouvelle demande de libération. Elle sera étudiée en audience à huit clos le 7 octobre prochain.
De quoi Georges Ibrahim Abdallah est-il le nom ?
Soutenir Georges Ibrahim Abdallah c’est aussi se rappeler son combat. Il est instituteur lorsque commence la guerre civile libanaise de 1975-1990 où les responsabilités historiques de la France sont importantes. Le Liban est placé sous mandat français à partir de 1920 suite au démembrement de l’Empire ottoman, jusqu’à son indépendance en 1943. La France s’y appuie sur les chrétiens maronites comme population alliée. De ce mandat à accouché le système institutionnel libanais communautaire où durant 30 ans les maronites ont dominé politiquement et économiquement le pays.
Cette histoire coloniale française rencontre celle du colonialisme sioniste qui voit la résistance palestinienne s’installer au Liban où le nombre de réfugié·es palestinien·nes de la Nakba est très important. La minorité maronite est alors inquiète de perdre son hégémonie. En effet, après des années de luttes des classes importantes, les groupes d’extrême gauche libanais entrent en connexion avec la résistance palestinienne. Ce sera le cas pour Georges qui s’engage d’abord au sein du FPLP motivé par la cause palestinienne, puis participe à la guérilla au Liban du sud.
Se rappeler de Georges c’est se rappeler de cette histoire oubliée mais aussi d’une décennie, les années 80, qui est cruciale : elle verra se dérouler l’invasion israélienne du sud-Liban, durant laquelle seront notamment commis les massacres de Sabra et Chatila ; mais aussi l’ingérence américaine et française dans une région clef de la méditerranée et des ressources énergétiques du Moyen-Orient [6]. Les années 80 sont aussi le moment du tournant néolibéral du capitalisme et du redéploiement de l’impérialisme occidental, les deux allant de pair, participant à ancrer l’islamophobie dans la société française : Gaston Defferre, ministre de l’Intérieur, taxera par exemple en 83 d’ « intégristes, de chiites » les grévistes immigrés de Renault-Flins, durant la période où la France combat les milices chiites au Liban.
L’histoire de Georges commence au début de cette phase historique de la mondialisation occidentale triomphante qui touche violemment à sa fin aujourd’hui avec le génocide en cours à Gaza. Se battre pour sa libération inscrit les combats anti-impérialistes d’hier et d’aujourd’hui dans une continuité.
Liberté pour les prisonniers et prisonnières politiques
L’acharnement français et américain à maintenir Georges en prison est révélateur du système de répression impérialiste. C’est pourquoi la lutte pour la libération des prisonnier·es politiques est une bataille anticolonialiste de premier plan, et ils sont nombreux : Mumia Abu Djamal et Léonard Pelletier aux USA, Ahmed Saadat et Marwan Bargouthi en Israël, Ocalan en Turquie et tant d’autres. Au-delà de la solidarité naturelle pour les camarades victimes de répression, il s’agit de faire payer cher la répression contre le moindre d’entre nous aussi longtemps qu’il faut.
Rappelons les campagnes internationales pour la libération d’Angela Davis, ou la campagne « Free Huey » en soutien à Huey P. Newton du Black Panthers Party, où chaque comité de soutien permettra le développement du BPP. Chaque mobilisation en faveur des prisonniers est une occasion d’éducation politique et de démasquer la nature féroce des états dit « de droit » !
De ce fait cette année plusieurs initiatives en France ont eu lieu pour Georges les 6 avril dernier à Lannemezan, le 15 juin à Lyon. Soyons donc toutes et tous présentes le 7 octobre pour exiger sa libération !
