“Keeping Unwanted Messages off the Fediverse” – Serge Wroclawski
Good talk. I totally agree that we can't rely on moderators on the fediverse, and for that matter anywhere else.
The best way to deal with moderation on the fediverse is this:
- Make sure you allow admins to curate their own instance by showcasing/promoting what they think is best. I call this positive moderation. Not banning, but promoting.
- Make sure users have easy and powerful tools at their disposal to ban/block anyone and curate their online presence.
- Transparency at the instance level. Inform users when your instance has blocked any other or any user, and for what reason. Inform users when they are banned from instances and so forth. As transparent as possible.
