Trying to find a decent laptop is a pain in the ass in today's trade-based society. The "variety" is an overwhelming, endless and deceiving challenge, made out of copycats. For my own needs, after months of searching, I settled my mind on one particular one. But it was difficult and I am yet to test it.
For my sister....she wants a well built one, 2 in 1 (convertible with touchscreen). No more expensive than 500-600 Euros. Seems like an easy job. Well....it is when you fail to understand a bunch of things such as:
- some are half plastic, which makes them a lot less resilient; you'll regret it later.
- others have almost no useful ports - hey I need that normal USB port, where is it? hey...I wanna connect it to my monitor/projector....no HDMI? proprietary charger, no usb c? that sucks when I need to change it....
- most of them have the RAM and storage baked into the motherboard.... - oh, my computer is full, can I expand the storage? my computer is slow, can I add more RAM? NOO? Do I need to now buy a new laptop???
- others are very difficult to open up: to upgrade, to clean, to repair...
- some have no backlit keyboard making it a pain to use in the dark....
- many have a completely shitty webcam and mic...
- the very few good ones are so expensive you could buy a car for that money.
So yeah....they give you "options", or better said they wrap these laptops in shiny packages making them look cool, while in fact pretty much all of them have big downsides and are poorly made.
Difficult....and on top of that some are not even available in the EU.
I wish there were 4 laptop models that were modular so you can upgrade them. Make them out of resilient metal too. We don't need a million types of copycat laptops that have little differences here and there, and are deceiving and poorly made.
Hi Society! Wake up!
