The cult of new-tech
If you want to see the cult of new-tech just watch any "tech-youtuber". Start with this one youtube.com/watch?v=ZSowePnsWX…
A video review about the latest Samsung foldable phone. Edge to edge screen, ability to snap multiple apps side by side, cameras, swipe, skype, hopefully thinner, you can shower with it, and soooo much more. Exactly like the model before it. All for 1800$.
Technology companies are over-hyping useless new features, or non-features, because they have to release new models of their tech every few months or so. They have to, else they cannot continue their endless trade routine.
Every time you watch a video where "tech-tubers" talk about a phone, a car, a laptop and such, imagine if we would do these for say toasters. Each year or a few months, a new Toaster500 Slick is going to be released. Now it toasts the bread 0.04s faster than the previous one at a temperature of 143.4C (0.3 degrees cooler than the previous one).
New features include:
- 4 new toasting modes: light, lit, lift, and lol.
- comes in 3 colors: white, almost yellow, and egg-white
- it can toast 3 more bread brands: Curcy, Snorky, and Muffy
- better phone notifications when your bread is done
- and a lot more
If that would sound ridiculous, then why doesn't it sound ridiculous when people compare phones to the millimeter. How many mm thinner it is; how many nanoseconds faster it is to open apps; how many noise dots a photo has; pixels and subpixels; endless nonsense that in real life conditions are not noticeable or important at all.
Cars are the same: 0.4s faster from 0 to 100KM/s; 4 auto parking modes instead of 3.5; new colors, different logos, and so forth.
This world is a complete insanity. Endless bullshit. Nothing useful.
Who is there making videos about how fast the medical emergency unit is responding in that part of the US vs the other one. Medical quality care? How many people can get access to healthy food? How much cleaner the air is? How much is this drug increasing the survival rate in people with cancer? These are the bloody important progress units, not the fact that your new phone opens an app 0.06s faster than the other one, or that the screen is at such a high resolution that your eyes can't even see.
A bunch of traders and consumers. Liking each other in the butt-hole like an endless loop of eating shit. The language may be too strong, but the idiocy is even stronger.
Stay sane. #tromlive
