I think eventually I will buy a framework laptop next year when I'll replace my bulky one. I mean the fact that I can replace every part of it, is absolutely amazing frame.work/de/en/marketplace/l… . The only downside for me is the small screen. I am used to 17inch screen.... Helps when designing stuff and video edit, but an external monitor can help me in that regards.

But yah if I am to buy a laptop this one is by far the best in terms of build and the fact that I can change pretty much anything is bliss. This should be the damn norm!

It is backlit, yes. A pretty nice keyboard to, according to a teacher I had who got one before me; personally I've just switched to using an external mechanical keyboard for most of my typing, but the keyboard of the laptop is definitely nicer than most you'll find. The layout's a bit odd, though, with the navigation keys.

If you are going with a "no dedicated GPU" laptop, I recommend to check out eGPU devices. These things allow basically to extend your laptop with any desktop GPU cards you may find. Yes, it isn't that mobile as having it inside the laptop and requires Thunderbold 3/4 protocol support (I couldn't find if framework laptops support that or not, unfortunately), but might be a good solution for rendering video and for other heavy loads which built-in graphic cards are not that capable of very well.

There are plenty of GPU cards may be found on eBay and here is the list of eGPU devices to consider:

Very interesting idea. However if I think practically what I do with my linux system, I almost never use a dedicated GPU for several reasons, but basically whatever I use does not need a dedicated GPU. Even the video editor I use, Kdenlive almost never uses the GPU anyway...so it depends how the software is also setup to do that. Despite this I can edit a massive documentary that has many layers of footage and audio on top of each other.

I do not game either...

So for me, multitasking, video editing, graphic design and all that, a good CPU (and framerowk has plenty of those) and a good GPU (iris xe graphics that they ship with is more than enough for me) seem like a great choice :D

Also to be able to replace parts in the future is fabulous. I think what bothers me the most is the small screen size. :P

I hear ya, just one more option for you to be aware of :winking face:

Obviously, I am not speaking of gaming and other stuff, since I know you do not game. Sometimes dedicated GPU may be a serious advancement in terms of video editing and rendering on the fly (and yea, you can choose whatever card you want, not only that which is soldered, even the AMD one, which has better support for Linux in general). Obviosly it depends on if you're having big plans for more videos after TROM II :grinning face with smiling eyes: Otherwise, it might be enough to have the built-in card :winking face:

The screen sizes though, yeah.. I feel ya, might be a real gamechanger. Unfortunately, have no better recomendation except the external screen.

That's it then! I'll go for it haha :D - Need to tame myself. Tame tio, tame! Caaaalm. haha. Next year! Next year! Finish TROM 2, then buy it. Sell your laptop. Do it. Next year....

But yeah fantastic. I had no idea about egpus. That's super fucking cool. It means I can always connect to such a dedicated gpu in case I need to seriously work on some idk what .... 3D stuff or crazy video editing :D

Oh and I love that I can get it cheaper because for example I do not have to buy any RAM. I have 32GB on my laptop and I can use those. It is fantastic that they let you not buy certain parts. Damn man I got busy with this hahahaha. Dreaming about this laptop. I think because I love the idea to be able to bloody replace parts and easily maintain a laptop. And to have it well built.

Anyway, I have to tame my excitement until after TROM 2 is released and if I have enough money then, I will buy it and sell my old laptop. For now I do not need it. TROM 2 needs to be done first :D

But for now I am a bit in love with the concept of the framwork laptop.

Yup, the framework concept is a very beatiful Idea, this is how the devices should be designed without all that bullcrap about make it even more thin for no reason or in exchange of maintainability.. I wish they had more options to choose from though. Probably, they will come with more later.

All these projects offer way saner devices I ever had throughout my life. And yes, ACER, I speak about you bitch hahaha. I never forget I had to disassemble the entire laptop (even to take off a keyboard and touchpad) to simple replace a fuckin battery wtf?? :grinning squinting face:
