If I were to buy a new laptop, where do I find one that is very well built and has most of the things on my list? Out of curiosity....

My list:
- fully metal, no plastic
- 17inch screen
- backlit keyboard
- very good CPU
- decent GPU (I prefer AMD)
- easy to take apart, change stuff, upgrade - if it takes me me more than 2 screws and 1 minute to replace the RAM or the Drive, it is not a good laptop
- FullHD screen (no less, no more)
- ok battery life, but I care more if I can easily replace it without any screws involved
- not super expensive

Not that I want to buy now, but maybe I'd like to in the future, and replace my plastic laptop that has a shitty Nvidia card (not working well on Linux).

AH yess Tuxedo. I forgot about them. Thanks a bunch. Quite expensive tho but I guess that's how much they cost. I think @Aaron has a Tuxedo. Aaron, right? Am also unsure if they are fully metal or some parts, like the front frame of the display may be plastic...

Thanks for those too!

@Tio no I don't have one of these - but maybe a Tuxedo is going to be the next one, if I get a new one.

I see but there you can choose multiple types of hardware. When you have time let me know what did you choose. Nivdia I guess and what? If you have the package hardinfo you simply open that and you get a summary :D

@Tio okay, so Intel Core i7-9750H, 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 1650, 4 GB, GDDR5 and Integrated Intel® UHD Graphics 630

@Tio yeah, it's a good laptop, but it probably doesn't allow much of upgrading or replacing things easily. As I said next time I would go for a Tuxedo or so :)

Yeah.. Dell unfortunately goes apple's road here to create absolutely unmaintainable bricks, tho the laptops themselves are ones of the best you can choose from these days. And this is exactly why I'd vote for Tuxedo or any other from such projects, because all of them think about repairing and upgrades which is so rare from the big ones nowadays :disappointed face:

This web could help you choose a laptop and maybe even where to buy it:

framework meets all your specs except screen size frame.work i'm sure when you're ready to buy you'll find something online, perhaps even 2nd hand on eBay, craigslist, or offerup

Yes in terms of build quality framework is great, but no dedicated gpu + only available in usa/canada i think + they are so expensive...but yeah the idea is great.
