A few years ago we took a chunk of our lawn and seeded it with a mix from Minnesota Native Landscapes. mnlcorp.com/native-seeds-and-p…

After two years of mowing, we got to let it go this year. I'll just add to this thread through the summer/fall. It's already amazing to see every day.

CAUTION
Somewhere around the table of every decision sits the voice of Caution. It wears dowdy clothes and speaks quietly. It lacks glamour in an age of bravado and bombast. It can be easy to feel that we must always jump, because life has to be about trying the new. But it may not be. Caution reminds us that most new businesses fail, most schemes end in disaster and most relationships rehash the themes of the current unsatisfactory one. There is a huge amount to lose and there are many people around us who may get hurt by our ambitions. The devil one knows may just have the edge over the many demons one does not. Caution does not look down on the idea of compromise: it recognises that there are no ideal options for the imperfect beings we ultimately are. Caution has the bravery to not always rebel against reality.

Let us for a moment, imaginatively at least, look over the world from a point of view which will reveal the inner and outer workings of man, his creations and his battles; and if you can do that, what do you see before you? You see man imprisoned by innumerable walls: walls of religion, of social, political and national limitations, walls created by his own ambitions, aspirations, fears, hopes, security, prejudices, hate and love. Within these barriers and prisons, he is held, limited by national boundaries, racial antagonisms, class struggles and cultural group distinctions. You see man throughout the world imprisoned, enclosed by the limitations, the walls of his own creation. Through these walls and enclosures, he is trying to express what he feels and what he thinks, and within these he functions with joy and with sorrow.

A strong Europe needs independent digital spaces.

We believe true digital sovereignty thrives on a competitive, contestable, open ecosystem where diverse platforms co-exist.

Today, we’re expanding our presence to W, the new social media. By being on W, we want to boost alternatives and support all efforts toward a decentralised web.

And we continue to invest into our presence on the Fediverse!

Meditation is like going to a well, the waters of which are inexhaustible, with a pitcher that is always empty. The pitcher can never be filled. What is important is the drinking of the waters, and not how full the pitcher is. The pitcher must be broken to drink the water. The pitcher is the centre which is always seeking, and so it can never find. To seek is to deny the truth that is right in front of you. Your eyes must see that which is the nearest; and the seeing of that is a movement without end. He who seeks projects that which he seeks and so he lives in an illusion, always striving within the limits of his own shadow. Not to seek is to find; and the finding is not in the future – it is there, where you do not look. The looking is ever-present, from which all life and action takes place. Meditation is the blessing of this action.

Ever needed to talk about your #MentalHealth but not sure you can walk through that door* and sit with a group of strangers? Why not take this chance to have a short 30min walk to meet some of the lads outside. Volunteers and some regular attendees will be there so you can get a few perspectives on the first visit. And they won't be strangers. No judgement or forced advice

*There's an online meeting too

Well done. Very pleased you were open to looking. And touched you said so so I know this is worth it (even though I don't need confirmation it's still heart warming)
There also the talkclub that meet online and in groups first and third Wednesday of the month
Try them all and go with the one or combo that suit you

El Niño is here, which means it's time for me to dust off and refine my old collection of ENSO-related climate visualizations. Check out how much sea surface temperatures have already warmed this year across the equatorial tropical Pacific. Wow!

Data from psl.noaa.gov/data/gridded/data…. More ENSO monitoring indices (e.g., RONI) available at zacklabe.com/climate-change-in….

does not depend on capacity. It is not a technique that you develop, cultivate and increase through time, through constant sharpening. This awareness of oneself can be tested in the action of relationship; it can be tested in the way we talk, the way we behave. Watch yourself without any identification, without any comparison, without any condemnation – just watch – and you will see an extraordinary thing taking place. You not only put an end to an activity which is unconscious, but, further, you are aware of the motives of that action, without inquiry, without digging into it.

Meditation is the attention in which there is an awareness, without choice, of the movement of all things, the cawing of the crows, the electric saw ripping through the wood, the trembling of leaves, the noisy stream, a boy calling, the feelings, the motives, the thoughts chasing each other and going deeper, the awareness of total consciousness. And in this attention, time as yesterday pursuing into the space of tomorrow and the twisting and turning of consciousness, has become quiet and still. In this stillness, there is an immeasurable, not comparable movement; a movement that has no being, that is the essence of bliss and death and life; a movement that cannot be followed, for it leaves no path, and because it is still, motionless, it is the essence of all motion.
