hey I've got a question! The pre-order is supposed to cost ā¬99, but I only paid ā¬78.88. Is there any problem with it?
the thing to worry about is that android support. I'm still pissed a little how it was done on the first jolla where the proprietary blobs that implement it or wtv stopped being updated for later android api versions because of their contracts or wtv it was about. And hopefully no more btrfs as the file system, that thing required me to manually fsck the system or wtv to reclaim space at the time.
Replaceable battery & expandable storage makes it better than most things in the market.

I think that it would be a god idea tho have the same processor, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and other hardware spec that are the same as for Valves Steam Frame.
SteamOs will be optimized for arm, kde and Qt6, and that is very useful for Jolla Sailfish OS.

FWIW, most of the money goes to the labels. The artists are getting screwed by pretty much everyone. The label contracts used to be a based roughly on the idea that we all used to buy a Ā£10 CD every month, so that's the pound of flesh the labels demand per user. It's just that none of that now goes to artists. Streamers have surprisingly little say in the service they can offer.

I steam because it is convenient and gives me more of a mix. I also purchased a good amount of songs this year. They aren't mutually exclusive. Plus doing both is technically even better for the artist, as they get the purchase and the click
Edit: I am also a student, so I don't have infinite amount of money every month. And I know a lot of people who are off worse to a point where even spending 1ā¬ can be a big ask

One alternative would be to find songs with FreeTube/Invidious download with yt-dlp and convert the tracks into the format of your choice with ffmpeg.
Then you could put your music on to an mP3 player and listen in private.
Besides the initial downloads the techbros would not be able to gather any more useful data about you while you were listening. Nor push ads at you.
If you find something you really like then buy the album/track or, even better go to a live concert.

a friend of a friend is a student at Cornell and going through exactly this right now (and working on transferring out of their dream college) they shared a document where the administration defended their AI policies and in the defense cite "AI Copilot" output as their source. I'm kinda disappointed I'm not seeing some malicious compliance source checking where they apply the same battery of checking sources one would to citations of obscure books for made up Wikipedia edits. Would an AI model be a primary or secondary source?

I wonder about all that "AI photo generation / manipulation" tools reportedly "comming to Whatsapp". I guess when people feed their photos to AI to manipulate ... they stay on Meta servers 4 ever? Got deleted? Some trustworthy 3rd party controll it happens? XD And if someone (like me) think "why the hell would anybody feed their photos to Meta AI" ... then I'am thinking of "clever" ways like "grant permission to whole galery" - great "now would u like Meta AI to improve contrast"? š

Hudson Bay used to be one of the more predictable indicators of the Arctic cycle, so seeing another unusually warm season and such a late freeze-up is honestly worrying. It feels like each year pushes the baseline further. Do you think weāre witnessing a long-term shift that will eventually reshape the whole Arctic ecosystem, or is there still room for seasonal recovery? And what data or trends are you personally watching most closely this year?

Patreon initially planned to switch to the new model in Nov2025, but due to technical issues with a payment processor (Apple), they've postponed the deadline several times. Tipeee recently announced a Jan2026 deadline, so I've decided to move both platforms to the new monthly subscription model at the same time.

My preferred platform is Liberapay because the creator and admin are on Mastodon and the platform doesn't take 5%.

Liberapay always prefered (from the start) to not include a per-content system. So, since I have the account (back in 2017) I receive 'weekly' donation on it.
Liberapay allows me to download a table with the donation amount and date, and so, with a little table-math I can convert this into a monthly thing and merge the names on the credit ( I'm trying to standardize this to peppercarrot.com/ext/credits-aā¦ )

It means that an artist might need to release unfinished stuff just for the sake of being able to pay their bills. And for the supporter it is unsafe because there is little control to how much you pay. If someone pays 5ā¬ per creation, assuming 1 creation per month, and suddenly you turn in 1 creation per day or something this might be more than the person can or wants to afford.
So per month or something means stabilty for both artist and supporter, just extra effort is not awarded. Per creation creates pressure for the artist and exchanges uncertainty of delivery for uncertainty in when and how much you pay.

For you keeping the project up and sharing the result with the world. And everyone of us will have different expectation. But I think most of us do not have a problem with you taking time. With you choosing to do some freelance project when you feel like it. With you taking a break when you need it. Don't feel indebted to us or that you need to meet certain performance goals here.
And sure, your Liberapay donations are not a major income. Still, guaranteed 400ā¬ a month is not at all nothing. It is enough to afford food if everything else fails. If this change in Patreon goes well you will have a decent bit more monthly support. But still probably nothing in the range of full-time remuneration. So you should not treat this as a 100% job. Treat this as what it is: A small support from your community, to make sure you can continue doing what you do.
