2/2 Followup question: Do you still use any commercial social media? The only legacy #socialmedia I'm still on is #Facebook to keep up with local events that don't post elsewhere and a few people . I actually think it could be a good place for doing what it was originally designed to do, if only it had stayed there. But then I get hooked by the sponsored posts and end up scrolling through a bunch of trivial stuff I didn't want to spend time on.
I moved a bit earlier from the twitter migration and Melon taking over it. A previous coworkers was rightfully criticizing twitter on a bunch of aspects (unclear algorithm, oversold hype, etc ...) and pointed me toward mastodon.
It was cumulative for me. First, the constant appearance of Elon’s childish tweets though I don’t follow him. Then all the “pay for this” and advertising crap. Finally his promoting of Neo Nazis.
@douggreenfield Oh yes, I remember that day, when everybody had to see a Elon tweak. I think that was after Elon called in his (remaining) engineers to work on an "engagement emergency" because President Biden got more likes on a tweet than he did.
