They really put a goth chic on the news and asked her about the CEO shooting, not sure what they expected but she handled them well 😂

And remember, Luigi's rich, his lawyer says he is not asking for nor needs our donations. What a guy!

Go give to your local mutual aid groups and activists instead.

Oh and also, Luigi is innocent until proven guilty. He is ALLEGED to have murdered Thompson so until that's proven I'mma say ALLEGED.

Wow, she is good.

And no, I don't think anyone thinks the health care system has been given the high ground.

@fionag11 Hello, I suggest relying on Thunderbird to help with the gmail escape transition: Thunderbird allows to manage multiple email addresses, and thus

  • it is easy to search for all emails by one sender
  • it is easy to move emails by topic/senders to one folder (or virtual folder)
  • but most importantly for the transition: we can reply to an email and change our "from" address.

Example: my friend writes me on Gmail. I read it on TB. I click "reply", then in the "from" field I change my gmail address to my new one, with a simple button. I click send: my email is sent with my new email, my friend starts exchanging with my new email.

It's difficult to delete one's email address. It is easy to use both for a short or long transition.

ProtonMail can't work in that setting (it's too crypted, doesn't work with TB AFAIK).

Good to know: Thunderbird should provide email accounts in the near future.

This is great advice, @Vince zd

I did it! I have a new email with domain nili.ca, hosted in Canada

It is pretty cheap but not free. I decided paying a nominal fee for important services is better than being the product.

I'm testing my Fairphone at the moment, also in a move of de-googling and other multinationals. I read that you are having problems swapping Google Maps. On this phone there is a standard app for maps installed called Magic Earth, giving it a try now, with mostly positive results.

Looking Good

This sanderling (Calidris alba) appears to study its reflection in the water. I'm sure is just foraging for food.

"The Sanderling is one of the world’s most widespread shorebirds. Though they nest only in the High Arctic, in fall and winter you can find them on nearly all temperate and tropical sandy beaches throughout the world. The Ruddy Turnstone and the Whimbrel are the only other shorebirds that rival its worldwide distribution." - allaboutbirds.org

Who are you going to call, Ghostbusters of course, but before you do that, visit my photo gallery at:

Canada's postal strike - Bigger context

I don't know how many people outside Canada, but Canadians certainly know, that for several weeks we've had a postal strike that of course severely impacts businesses and customers in the lead up to Christmas. There is a short Wikipedia article. Usual issues of wages not keeping up with inflation and benefits - what, they don't already have paid breaks? #canadapoststrike

What people may not have heard of is how since several years the postal union has been advancing innovative ideas for how the postal service could be more sustainable and useful to the community in multiple ways going forward into the future. Seems to fall on deaf ears in management whose forward looking focus seems to be expanding hours of parcel delivery by hiring more part-time rather than full-time workers.

@fionag11 - that sounds like La Poste in France. They have long offered "bank" acounts with 24/7 cash machines outside, had copiers inside in case you needed one, and their carriers on rural may check on seniors.
in reply to fionag11

They really need a whole new business model, because the current one is just failing badly.

I am not a fan of Maxime Bernier, but he has a policy of privatizing Canada Post. That may be the only way to save it, but I always ask "who would buy it?" I can;t think of anyone other than CUPW. I mean UPS or FedEX might, but only to shut it down.

"US, Canadian universities hire Israeli firms to curb pro-Palestinian protests: Report"

It seems now Israeli soldiers who have "graduated" in Gaza and Lebanon will have the opportunity to get hired to brutalise American and Canadian students who dare oppose the genocide they committed.

It would have been more humane/efficient if you had slaughtered snd eaten them in Canafa.

Or Japan raise their own horses. They don't have enough room, I guess? It's a luxury food, otherwise I don't see how it could be cost effective for them.

The horse meat is sliced very thinly and served raw.

in reply to fionag11

Horse meat used to be normal for people to eat in France, cooked I think. Whatever Japan does, Canada still has the problem of what to do with its horses condemned to death.

Another video from Anas with another horror story. An injured woman holding a little girl whose whole head is wrapped in bandages rwcounts how the Israeli army dropped two missiles on her family home in #BeitLahia killing her mother and siblings. She and her daughter were the only survivors. They then spent 3 days in school shelters amid intense bombardment.

Going down with the ship. The captains have lifeboats, though.

The consequence of homeless camp destructions in Edmonton, Alberta last winter. Now it starts again.

"...a young adult who previously had both legs amputated below the knees because of frostbite showed up again with frostbite on their hands. Several fingers were amputated."
edmontonjournal.com/news/local…
“You have a policy that absolutely makes it impossible to set up a decent camp. The result is what we have now — people just curled up under almost nothing, under cardboard, under a tarp,” he said.
“They’re just lying in doorways and behind garbage containers and in bus shelters with a bare tarp or a little blanket wrapped around them.”
....
“Any suggestion that these deaths were individuals facing homelessness or that this is the cause of their death is complete speculation,” Wishloff said.
