Kids see the bear, point and draw attention and I get the rewards. At night, when i went to the club, I could have parked closest the door, I was like Staff, but I parked on a hard-to-access rocky spot near the stop sign. Incoming traffic faced my side, and traffic coming to the stop came from my rear. My friend, a band frontman, said why do you park way over there, I can get you up here? I said, WATCH? Every car that comes to a stop (or not) is nearly blinded by the reflective lettering. They all know my van. My DJ business got talked about and I exceeded the business of those who brought me into it. Advertising works.
@dch @Joy_intl Our library stopped keeping the history of our check-outs a few years ago, to be in a position to say "we don't know what books this or that person read." I missed being able to see my past but happier that my privacy rights are protected.

well from my perspective that looks like an overly elaborated trap. here in russia we just don't have such books in our libraries, if it's banned - you can't find it, that's all🤔 if there are books your government doesn't want you to read, it's easier for them to make sure you can't find them legally by removing them from libraries and bookstores, rather than catching everyone who buys them or takes in libraries allowing such books to be accessible in libraries to then punish everyone who accesses them doesnt make any sense to me

@ralen @jspath55 @dch @Joy_intl They don't have to record the titles, just increment the value when the book is checked out. I don't know what that library actually does, but it is possible to do it in a privacy-preserving way.

You buy music, everyone makes money from the CD but the artist gets the least. I own my music, but unrecognized DJ licensing companies say if you pay them a fee (that doesn't support the artist) you can violate copyrite and buy a license for each hard drive of music you give other DJs to use. No money for the artists, and each DJ thinks they are legally licensed? They are not
@vegai libraries buy/license all the books they lend, and publishers gouge them. Whether authors see a decent portion of those fees or not, is an entirely different question. Also, libraries lend more that books (musical instruments, sports equipment, toys, wifi hotspots, recording equipment, music, tv, movies, museum passes etc.). Letting people know what they get for their small investment of tax $ is a great idea. More public orgs should do this. @Rasta
you borrow a pair of skates or a musical instrument that costs $100s or more, or you use a library’s recording studio or VR equipment, you save $1000s. @lydiaconwell

I found it hard to believe because they still had shelves and shelves full of books.
I pay an average of $20 per CD in my collection. Some CDs I can't find, for that one SHOW. The library had it, so I just borrowed it for the show (that's not completely legal BTW, it's not personal if you use it for business and is not protected by the law)
Our library system also does this. I believe they keep a running total of average pieces, not sunning up past lendings. Where are are were fighting a regional govt pushing restrictions and censorship to our libraries. First to the publicly funded school libraries but now to the public libraries. Their wedge issue is "graphic" content, conspicuously in LGBTQA++ young adult and adult graphic novels.
The Conservative party in power here has cherry picked specific pages, out of context, lied and claimed they were freely available to grades K though 6. They've lied about the level and number of concerns (truth coming out though freedom of information requests, eventually. 6, six emails two or three from the same person. None from first hand concerns, all hearsay) They promised that it was only in schools, only elementary schools. Then they said all schools. They had to remove books & report all their inventory. Now public libraries are to put the targeted items behind the counter, by request only. /1

Just over a month ago I was called to have a Lung Cancer Screening, as I am an ex-smoker! On Monday I received a letter to say that as part of the scan they had noticed 'a degree of hardening of the arteries', they stressed that this doesn't mean I have heart disease, just that I am at greater risk. For this I thank them
However the letter didn't say anything about Lung Cancer, which was the purpose of the screening!
Today I received a second letter from them, printed same day as the first (thanks Royal Mail), which gives the Lung Cancer Screening result and I need to get another scan in about 3 months as it doesn't need immediate follow-up or further investigation! The letter a;so mentions the hardening of the arteries and gives the same advice as the first letter.
Your grandfather and his fellows were heroes. They paid a heavy price for their good work, especially in the days before PTSD and moral injury were recognized, but I hope they understood how many lives they were able to save and the truth they uncovered in that horrible place.
I live in Ahlem, Hanover. One of my dog walking routes includes both the site of the Ahlem satellite camp (a forced labour camp and now a memorial site), and the British forces graveyard. Ahlem also has another holocaust memorial site, the Gartenbaumschule.

@nab26 yea, but this one has a quite short window from now till basically loosing LEO (at least for people) for many decades. Dr. Kessler (of the syndrome fame) and co. wrote a paper quite recently - and, long story short - we have maybe 11 years max - if we don’t drastically reduce the constellations, and we are rapidly increasing their numbers.
