Good Morning #Canada
I haven't posted about #PublicTransit lately but this video about the ION, a public transportation network in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario, was interesting. It has been operating since 2019 with an annual ridership of 4.3 million. This YouTube channel covers public transit around the world and pulls no punches when it's done wrong. But here he points out how a small city gets it mostly right.

Here are two reminders from my bike commute today that, despite all the recent high profile hand wringing in the NZ media about e-scooters, these are not the big reason why the streets of our cities are dangerous.

Of course it's all the cars.

It's a choice that we design our cities like this.

Good Morning #Canada
Toronto's Line 5, referred to as the Eglinton Crosstown, has been open for over 6 months and the general consensus locally is that it's pretty good. This excellent video provides a review of the LRT, including the supporting network, benefits, negatives, and Toronto's overall design philosophy for #PublicTransit. It rightly points out Canada is generally bad at design and is still in love with cars.

Way ahead of you #NewYorkTimes why can't we end this free #parking paradigm and become more like #Paris?

Bike lanes free our towns and cities from cars.

Bike lanes make our roads safer for EVERYONE, including car drivers.

We don't need the government to spend billions on big new roads.

We need them to build more bike lanes!

Im encouraging everyone to follow the account of one of my fav video makers, NotJustBikes 😍🚲

@notjustbikes.

NotJustBikes makes the best videos unpacking how our cities could be soo much better if we bought some good design and moved away from cars and made our spaces walkable and people centric. See their bio for links to their videos.

Extra special is that here on Mastodon is their main social media presence (outside video posts), and they do not want cross posting of their posts onto the capitalist platforms. Absolute legend.

So since we are on Mastodon you can very much follow them at the account above.

New to Mastodon? Consider following any of these hashtags if you’re interest to follow these topics further.
