So on my Inspiron 7620 laptop the battery capacity dropped to 93% only after half a year of use. Is this normal? To me it sounds quite extreme to have a 15% capacity loss a year.... And I did not even use my laptop like most people do. Most of the time my laptop is plugged in.

@Roma what you think, is this normal?

Thanks a lot for the detailed info! I did notice a slight decrease in battery time while using the laptop. Now is like 5 or so hours, before maybe it was a bit more. But it is true my laptop is kinda warm all the time, at times very hot. Does not help that now is fucking hot in here.....

I guess I will have to replace the battery in a few years time anyway.

Thanks a lot again, and useful link to the manjaro forums!

Very welcome, as always! Yeah.. unfortunately, lithium batteries don't like heat at all and tend to degrade faster in the hot environments.

From what I understood, working temperatures higher than 35C may affect the capacity directly, slowly decreasing it or it just discharges quicker than usual, even after full charge (absolute limit of the temperature is 60C, though it is totally not recommended). However, I hope, yeah, your battery shouldn't require a service that soon.

Yeah my laptop runs kinda hot....50-60 on average. 80 when I stress it.....maybe I should put a fan to blow air to it....

Or I would recommend something like this https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/coolers/notebook-cooler/notepal-cmc3/. It's around 20 euros on amazon. Using a similar thing myself, since I have heavy workloads for my working laptop sometimes and it heats a lot too.

Thanks I will consider it for sure.
