Still waiting for my Slimbook Executive 16 to arrive. They have to assemble it and all that. Am excited to see and test it. Ofc if I do not like the build quality I will return it back and buy something else. Probably will arrive next week. Again a massive thanks to @Roma who made this more possible. I would have bought the laptop even if I did not raise any money, but probably a much cheaper one, however Roma's massive donation is basically what made the laptop campaign make sense tromsite.com/tromlaptop/ - else....well.....it is really not reliable anymore for me to rely on donations....
I mean except a few (3 or so) close TROM friends who have helped enormously for the past years, and maybe 50 or so people who contributed a little here and there monthly, there is no financial help. We get some 250 Euros a month from 30 people, and some 200 of this is by 1 human haha. So yeah, we used to get over 1k a month in donations to support TROM. Not anymore.
Reason?
I suspect a bunch of reasons such as the fact that nowadays people are blasted with all sorts of micropayments and donation schemes, subscriptions and the like. When I started this years ago, donating seemed like a noble thing to do to support a project. Nowadays donating means you get access to whatever shit the "sellers" provide. You don't "support", you want the perks and "early access" shit or whatever. The notion of "donating" has become almost meaningless and pointless.
Me and Sasha will try to make money ourselves and support these projects, so for now we are ok. But it is for sure a bit depressing to see that you provide tons of free stuff: from books and videos, to online services and so on; and despite thousands using these things, only a handful help you financially to sustain these projects.
Anyway, I am continuing the work and maybe through WebApe I can sustain it in the long run. Will see ;)
