To those newly here from Bluesky, the thing I've seen people struggle with most is getting started curating their feed. Other services have an algorithm that shoves stuff in your face. Here, you need to actively build an interesting feed yourself. A few ideas: (1) when you find interesting people, see who follows them and who they follow; (2) when you find an interesting instance (mastodon server), look at its public feed; & (3) when you find an interesting hashtag, you can just follow it.

I often wonder whether loud packets are designed to induce social pressure to share and consume more.

@Bonfire@bonfire.cafe I'm very excited about the Bonfire developments, thank you for all your work! 🙏🤩

I was looking at the Open Science flavour / app (I'm still a bit foggy on the terminology), but there seem to be some dead links (e.g. on bonfirenetworks.org/app/open-s…, the "participate" link (to github.com/bonfire-networks/bo…); and on github.com/bonfire-networks/bo…, the "Open Science" link (to github.com/bonfire-networks/op…).

Do you know whether this is still alive, so to speak? 🙂

@matherion @Bonfire@bonfire.cafe we are in the process of releasing the open science network 1.0rc and publishing a dedicated website...
happy to have a quick chat when you're available to share with you what we did and roadmap

People really log the fuck onto the internet and post things when they could just buy a diary with a lock for $9.99 plus tax

We planted and mulched the garlic today. Sleep well, babies! See you in ... oh gosh ... seven months (it is truly impressive that anything can survive our -40C winters and sprout in the spring)

@experimentmapass ohhh i see. I was just complaining that RSS feeds I want to follow don't follow the spec so I have to write code to handle them in my RSS reader I'm writing. not a huge deal but a bit annoying lol

Feeling moderately overwhelmed by all of this, but big ups to @etherdiver for shouting me out :owi:

Unfortunately, I was terminated from my previous role as a graphic designer at Materia Collective in June. I've been actively looking for a new role within the gaming industry to no avail...

Anyone hiring within the #indiegamedev and/or #vgm communites? 🙏

Scandinavia with Simon Reeve - videoneat.com/documentaries/26…

Interesting documentary about how we can make our society a bit better. Things to learn from these Nordic countries, but also a bit of an expose of how even these tribes rely on the fossil fuel industry and so forth...

Samsung has rolled out a software update to its smart fridges that will display ads, despite saying they had "no plans" to do so. We're headed for a future where you will have to pay extra for appliances without ads.

Calendar makers should sell their products with magnets so they can fit directly over the ad window. 💡
Low tech can occasionally solve high tech annoyances.
I'll be sticking with dumb fridges.

What kinds of safeguards are in place?
New pandemics anyone?
