Here is Sagan talking about it and you hear him get a little choked up, as do I every time I hear it. My wife gave me a framed picture of the"pale blue dot" with Sagan's words beneath. Your moon in a rainbow is giving me the same vibes. Thanks!

First I've heard of this project, and I hope you don't mind if I ask a few (really basic) questions about it to see if it's right for me. Is this based on ActivityPub? Does it incorporate existing applications as a sort of aggregator, or it is a new and separate platform?
@scooter it is based on activitypub, its a new platform and it can connect with all the existing applications and aims to bring novel types of activities and experiences into the fediverse
your Elixir ActivityPub library has been on my radar for a while, but unfortunately pulling it in would involve having developers who solicit donations for slop code: github.com/bonfire-networks/bo… in my dependency graph, and I can’t justify that for software that’s meant to serve the marginalized communities currently being harmed by LLMs like the ones you’re using.

There is, in the same github repo, also a .claude folder with a CLAUDE.md containing extensive instructions, as well as a rubber_duck.chatmode.md.
Were LLM/vibe coding involved in the development of the project? Will they be used in the future?
@nullpotential as you can see from some of the documents you referenced, we sometimes experiment with using LLM tools for "rubber duck" debugging when stuck on a problem, but none of the Bonfire extensions or features have been AI-generated

both bonfire social and openscience.network are built on bonfire, they address different needs and have different features and UX. We are now working with communities that needs tools for organising and coordinating (events, decision making, mutual aid, etc) which will result in new extensions that everyone will be able to install and use in their own bonfire app. We're not competing or building a mastodon alternative, we're building tools for communities in the open social web...

ERA5 is the fifth generation ECMWF reanalysis for the global climate and weather for the past 8 decades.
Data is available from 1940 onwards.
ERA5 replaces the ERA-Interim reanalysis.
I didn't have access to my telescope mount, so I could only shoot 2.5s long untracked exposures, which means over 400 of them in total! This made processing very complicated and time intensive, but I'm still quite pleased with the final result.
Building a metric barn door tracker A Barn Door Tracker mount is an inexpensive and very effective solution for taking long exposures of the night sky without producing star trails. There are plenty of solutions described out there on the internet.

I did find comet Lemmon last night in hazy London atmosphere with clouds around.
Not a great photo, but it is still possible to do, even from light polluted cities.

@derickr Thanks! I'm glad I could pull out this much detail, but my gear was probably not even a whole lot better than yours! Just a 135mm lens and a mirrorless camera without a tracking mount. See below for a single exposure.
The real difference came from stacking over 400 images which honestly was a ton of work!

Oh wow. I had no idea that stacking images would do *that* much to an image. I'll definitely give this a go (when I can observe again, as it's cloudy now).
I've lately been quite obsessed with this app called StreetComplete. It gamifies contributing to OpenStreetMaps in a really nice way by giving you you little quests to do while you walk around. A fun way to get some steps in, to make you look closer at your environment and to do a good thing!

En tout cas, tant que Moby contrôle sa propre page, il peut aussi l'éditer, restreindre plus, changer ses règles: donc terrain glissant pour les dérivations.
C'est pour ça qu'avoir un acteur tier comme CC avec leurs versions fixes serait sans doute plus solide pour faire du partage sous conditions.
