779 trees planted in the Philippines in September, paid for by Mastodon.green tooters.

€1286 in September fees = €257 for trees = 779 mangroves.

Altogether, so far, the instance's members have planted 18,285 new trees on Earth.

The server runs on 100% renewable energy. 20% of the small monthly membership fee goes to certified tree-planting. Danke, tak & thanks to our admin @JohanEmpa for his work and for sharing the figures.

Our oceans have been record warm over the last three months due to human-caused climate change and an (unlucky) combination of other factors (e.g., transition from 3 years of La Niña to El Niño, atmospheric circulation forcing, multi-decadal variability, solar activity)

Very large portions of the #Arctic observed temperatures more than 5°C above the 1981-2010 reference period last month! This was especially prominent in areas of missing sea ice.

Instead of a #FollowFriday I wanted to just say how much I've literally had more happiness in my life after properly getting into @radiofreefedi this week and discovering and enjoying so many amazing artists, so shout out to @deannaistyping @DoctorDeathray @randulo @Sakti and of course the brilliant @rybson plus so many more I either forgot or didn't catch their fedi link in time haha! Thank you to everyone who makes this initiative so wonderful! #RadioFreeFedi

Now averaging across the entire #Antarctic last month shows a record high for the month of September...

See my earlier post today for the spatial distribution of temperature anomalies: fediscience.org/@ZLabe/1112226…

Data from ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis: cds.climate.copernicus.eu/cdsa…

Last month observed highly anomalous temperatures across nearly all of #Antarctica - departures exceeding 5°C above/below the 1981-2010 reference period...

@santiago I usually detrend first before applying any standardization methods when evaluating climate data indices.
in reply to Zack Labe

Its almost like a density plot, i kind of close my eyes a bit and see the sigma curves, we are in the 2-sigma departure to say the least 🤣

Due to unusually low sea ice in the #Arctic and #Antarctic, the size of the global sea ice departure is growing to its most anomalous yet this year...

I was going to say "Nov/Dec" data points will be interesting, but I'm afraid that might not prove to be the right word.

"This one-hectare rooftop oasis has become one of the largest places for animals to touch down, uninterrupted by chemicals and humans, from Monterey Bay all the way to Marin – a distance of about 190 kilometres.

"Though the living roof is small in comparison to other whole-landscape #rewilding projects, the hidden secrets and history of this patch of green hold inspiration and lessons for small-scale rewilding efforts in cities everywhere."
