Soaking up the storm: Sponge cities and the future of flood-resilient Southeast Asia
The climate crisis is causing increased extreme weather events in Southeast Asia. Could “sponge cities,” a city planning method engineered by Chinese architect, Yu Kongjian, help them weather the storm?Global Voices
Sami dwelling
Traditional Sami dwelling made of turf with a few amenities: a window and, most importantly, solar panels. While most of these huts are now used as summer kitchens for smoking fish or baking bread, here an old herder prefers to live in his hut in summer rather than in a more modern house.

Petition for an interprovincial People's Renewable Power Network in #Canada
We're calling on the Carney government to deliver a People’s Power Grid, an East-West Grid that provides affordable, reliable, renewable electricity to people from coast to coast to coast.
It would be a way better deal than that pipeline we bought.

Canadian nuclear assets and largest ever public contract being sold to US nuke consortium
The latest bit of craziness that is going under the radar, but we shouldn't let it:
- Background: Canadian Nuclear Laboratories as part of Atomic Energy of Canada used to be a Crown asset ; after $18 billion of public funds it was privatized by Harper for $17 million. Sold to who? good old SNC Lavelin!
- SNC Lavelin recently renamed itself to Atkins Realis, I can't imagine why./s
- Now they are selling Canadian Nuclear Laboratories to a US consortium, along with a huge public 20 year $24 billion contract.
- The US consortium operates nuclear weapons facilities
- WTF?! WTF?! WTF?!
- Elbows Up?
-see petition below - there's more - we haven't discussed the nuclear waste yet...guess where it is going ...not with the money!

Canadian companies still supplying components for Israeli military - evidence
New report uses shipping records to prove multiple ongoing Canadian exports of military components to Israel despite government claims to the contrary
"This analysis of commercially-available export data uncovered 47 shipments from Canada-based arms manufacturers to Israeli defence manufacturers between October 2023 and July 2025. Crucially, the 47 direct shipments traced here are only “a glimpse,” not an exhaustive record of all military supplies Canada sent to Israel during this time....
The Canadian government appears to have pursued a strategy of rushing through a record-breaking number of arms export permit approvals to Israel prior to publicly committing to pause approving any new ones. This was then quietly undermined by a series of exceptions and loopholes that were only acknowledged when exposed through media investigations or parliamentary scrutiny."

in reply to 404 Media • • •Somewhere around 10-15 years ago I found an article based on FBI information that showed that left wing violence had peaked in the early 1970s and tapered off quite quickly through the '70s/'80s.
Even at that time, they found the dominant political violence was from right wing groups, which had been escalating since the early 1980s.
I don't think anyone paying attention would be surprised by this.
