I am officially on the lookout for interesting pumpkin spice products this autumn, but I will probably not buy them.
It’s simply fun to see which items are going to be given this flavour or scent this time around.

I feel like future me won't like current me much...
As I am alone in the gym at the moment I've gotten to the guided barbell and I am trying some light pushes...
I used to push up more weight in the past, but I'm sure the little bit I'm doing now will be the cause for some annoying muscle aches. 😅

My family and I are heading to #Melbourne in January, not just for a visit but to live. The process of packing up your entire life and shipping it to another country is...challenging. I'll post more about the exact circumstances of that at a later date - but suffice it to say, I have *thoughts* to share about the broken social contract in Aotearoa (and how it affects people with rare disorders specifically.)
I'm absolutely gutted to be leaving my community behind, including my job where I work with volunteers and youth workers around the country to support our rangatahi. I would prefer to be staying, but I can't get the treatment I need and my symptoms are progressing. It's a choice of staying here and having a long, painful death - or moving to Australia, being paid more, and living a full life into my old age. So...yeah. It's become an obvious choice.
As a result, one thing I'm going to need is a new job. Community-based, for-purpose work is my preference. Any tips, connections, or thoughts are welcome!

Ello sweet and lovely Friendos
#GoodNight and #TZAG everyone!
I just got back from the gym and I realized that, due to answering an email to a sweet friend, that I had not written my nightly gym Toot on here... Whoops! So, I am writing it now and after that, I will do my best to write a nice journal toot...
The gym went well today, I even had some time alone! And the gross dude didn't show up, which made it even better. I even managed a little time with the guided barbell machine, which I fear I will regret after a few hours, or maybe after my next sleep... But it felt so good to do this exercise again...
I am feeling a bit emotional, even though I got some better sleep last night and the session at the gym went well. Hopefully it will slowly ease up a bit as I try to get through the day.
Better get to writing the journal Toot now. Ow, I made a group for my Fit account, but also for many others to join. It can be found at !@fittogether It is set to "need to follow" in order to be boosted, and the follow needs to be approved by me. I was hoping that this will prevent people from misusing the group and to hopefully only get real people joining... So if you are on a fit journey and you would love to receive and give support from and to others that are on a fit journey as well, be sure to sign up! The more people joining, the better our community will be.
Catch you all later folks!

I took a snap of the machine at the gym that I forgot to share, so I am sharing it here and now. 😊
I'll add the alt text in the Toot and in the description box, as I've recently learned that the description box isn't accessible to all that do need to use the alt text option.

Elaborate alt text by AI and I:
A Smith machine at the Basic-Fit gym in Oss, photographed during a late-night workout session. In the center stands the sturdy black steel frame with its gleaming chrome barbell locked into the guided rails, a reliable structure for controlled lifting. Several weight plates are neatly racked on the side pegs, ready for use. Inside the frame, a black adjustable bench with an incline setting is positioned beneath the bar, its seat covered by a bright blue towel—a personal touch marking this spot as prepared and ready. At the foot of the bench sits a vibrant orange water bottle with a turquoise cap, a small but cheerful detail against the dark rubber flooring. The background shows frosted glass walls with a hint of gym equipment reflected in the glass, creating a focused, almost private atmosphere. The scene is calm, quiet, and full of determination. For me, this picture carries more than just equipment—it marks the first time in quite a while that I returned to using this machine. Sitting down here again, setting up, and pushing through felt like a milestone. A moment of accomplishment, proving to myself that I’m moving forward, step by step, with resilience and pride.

Last year, I headed to the Kosciuszko backcountry to push far into areas we’d only seen in the distance or on maps.
After a brutal hike, we set up camp & for the next few days ducked out between rain, crazy winds & fog to scout & take images—this one from a sunset on the mountain’s edge. Only had maybe a minute of good light before it all cloaked the area in darkness.

#Journal of a Dutch Pixy
(Tuesday, 09/09/2025).
I had a bit better night, but it was still a rather short one, especially after the short and broken previous night. My scores of the day/night were 56 for my energy score, but I don't think I will get a high score anytime soon, as long as I keep being a night owl and "sleeping in the wrong times", and my sleep score was 85, with about 6:15 hours of sleep. I got up, hit the scale, which was a bit kinder this time, and then I got dressed. After taking my meds and putting the protein shake in my bag, I got my jacket and keys and headed to Skoosh.
We got to the gym, and I switched my shoes. Enjoyed my protein shake while catching up on the social media bits. Then, I got to the seated bike and started my half hour ride, even a bit of time on the second intensity. Onwards to the treadmill. I walked for 20 minutes and I got to 1,24km. I am slowly trying out if I can up the speed a little bit without it getting too hard or painful. I went a bit higher but then I felt that it was a bit too much. But still, seeing where I started a week ago, and where I am now, I do see some progress and that surely helps me to keep motivated to keep going.
Unfortunately, the "gross dude" from the previous night made an appearance again, and it was also unfortunately that his less than decent health and hygiene issues were still present. I mean, when you cough, at least block the splatter from reaching all of the equipment that you are using... (and clean it when you're done...). Fortunately, I was just ready at the treadmill, so I could move a bit further away to the strength machines. I used the leg abductor for a while again today, followed by the seated row for my arms/shoulders. I could feel my shoulders a bit from the exercise I had done the previous day. When I was done with the exercises, I went to the massage chair for a bit. Then, I switched my shoes and I got ready to head back home again.
I got home, washed up and changed clothes. Then I grabbed my tablet to write my journal Toot on Masto. When that was done, I switched to my laptop so I could add the text to the journal blog post. And, for reasons unknown, my laptop has issues with my vpn. I have the same anti-virus and VPN on my pc, and it works well there, But somehow, on the laptop, when I want to use the vpn, something blocks the internet then. I have tried all the options I could think of, and all the options that I could find online, but nope and nope... So that was rather annoying to say the least... 😔
After my trials and annoyance, I wanted to get some walking in. It was very wet out, so I was glad to have the treadmill. Plus, the way that I am feeling, the treadmill has more advantages than going outside at the moment (besides the downpour of wetness), But it means a little less painful memories while being out and about. Because it's taking longer to get light again, it's still dark when I want to head out. With the state of the neighborhood due to the construction work, it's very messy and, on top of that with the rain these days, also very muddy and slippery. With the treadmill, I can keep a steady pace, I can add a bit of incline, it's 's a steady way of walking and... I can watch something on my tablet while I am walking and... When I get tired, I am home already, so no worries on getting back. I do enjoy walking outdoors, but with the wets, with the darks, with the colder nights now, I was glad to be able to jump on the treadmill and get my half hour walk in. When I was done, I had walked 1,81km.
I relaxed a wee bit before heading upstairs to ride the home trainer. While I was riding, bestie called me during her ride to work. We had a nice chat while I was getting my half hour in. When I was done, bestie was getting close to her work. I fixed myself some brekky and enjoyed that while relaxing with some telly. After I had some rest and relaxation, I went back to the treadmill one more time, because I would have to leave for physio later today, so I would have less time to get some exercises in then.
I walked another half hour and got to 1,8km. Then, I got to the couch and wrote part of my blog post for the next day while having some old skool Star Trek TNG on the telly. Around 10:45, I got ready to head to Cuijk for my physio. It was messy but I was able to leave the parking OK enough. It was still raining like there woud be no end of it. I got to Cuijk in time and I relaxed a bit while chatting to the PT's wife while waiting for my appointment. The session went rather well and the physio was able to get some muscles into a better shape than they had been before.
On my way back home, I wanted to get some bits at Lidl. I parked, went through the rain to the entrance, only to find out that Lidl Cuijk was closed due to a reconstruction of the store... Bummer! So I headed to Grave to get my things there, as I didn't want to have to go to Berghem on Wednesday. I just wanted to get my things and then be done with it for a while. Fortunately, they were open in Grave and they had all I needed, so that was done.
I got home, unpacked my groceries, and then got to the couch where I relaxed with some telly. I had a bit to snack and then I took my meds and supplements. I readied my bag and other things for the next day and around 15:40, I got ready to head to bed. It was a bit earlier, but I was rather tired, and I wanted to see if getting to the gym a bit earlier might mean less (or even no) gross dude to deal with while trying to work out.
It took a little while before I got comfortable enough so I could fall asleep. I woke up for the loo once and then got back to sleep. I woke up again when my alarm went off. According to my watch, I almost got 8 hours of sleep, so that was very nice indeed. Ready to start my new "day".

Alright.... I got a DM from the Fedigroups that the bot has been made!
I set it to approval needed to use it, to hopefully prevent people from abusing it. This is a test to see if it will boost my Toot...
The group is called @fittogether
If you want to mention the group to others but you don't want it to boost you, please add an ! in front of the group name:
!@fittogether this way, you can mention the bot without it boosting. 😊
I am all new to this, but I'll check my notifications often for people signing up.
The bot creator has specific rules about the usage of their service! about.fedigroups.social/direct… more info here!
Would the group be able to help you??
I made this group for *all* people that could use some cheering
on while getting to their fit goals. Of course, it would be nice if the members could cheer to others as well! 😉
There is no set goal, there is no shaming here. Just being supportive to folks that want to get fit in any way and that can use the support of like-minded folks!
Let's do this people 💪🏻

I set it to approve followers so that the toots it will boost will be from genuine supportive fit friendos. 😊
Hope it will work well and that people don't mind to get approved to join in! 🤞🏻 Just wanted to let you know, as you used the old group as well! 🤗
I have many accounts... Somehow, my weird OCD ticks that came for free with my silly AuDHD treats... They have the need to keep things separated, in a way...
Because I totally understand it that people who would mind following me would/could be shocked to learn of all my different Fedi accounts. 🫣
So, organized me was like: try out Friendica, and use it to boost all your different accounts in one place! 🤯
My first instance had loads of issues during my nights. Which would not bother too many, but I'm a night owl 🦉
So, I joined this Friendica instance!
As I stated here before, I come to boost me 😇, my Friendos 💜 and the occasional friends of Friendos! I don't comment too much, anywhere... 🫣 I find it easier to share my things, to like and boost others, than to go into a conversation. I'm always scared of writing the wrong things...
So, that's just a bit about me today...
All my links are in my profile here. I'm always looking to follow new interesting people, but I don't automatically follow back, sorry. I have limited spoons and need to be wise with how to spend them.
Have a great day everyone!

When in Bolivia, the conversation turned to words for lavatory (Spanish baño, literally bath). People were amused to learn that in England we colloquially use the word for 'ciénaga', i.e. bog. They started using it. My interlocutors were actually of indigenous parentage but unlike their parents who'd moved to the city from the countryside, they didn't speak Aymara. These borrowings, generational changes and colloquialisms are an endless source of interest.
... and this thread stands as a wonderful example of why I feel so at home on Mastodon. Perhaps somewhere I have it in me to offer a contribution of my own, but in the meantime I delight in the contributions of others. Thank you for brightening my day.
@markhburton @afewbugs @alice
Yeah, it's always delightful, and you never really know what you get each day, I've learnt so many interesting things about stuff I never thought would be interesting just by seeing something passing buy, just asking a question, so nice to see so many people with so many views on things, and then you get carried on in a conversation that goes ways you didn't expect, it's wonderful :D
@sotolf @markhburton
And people take turns politely, don't try to dominate, and listen attentively. I sometimes imagine a group of friends sitting in the warmth of a sunlit square, chatting amicably over a coffee or whatever beverage suits.
@afewbugs @markhburton
And, back to colloquialisms, I have always liked the way Americans say "talk with" someone whereas in the UK we prefer to "talk to" others.
@sotolf I've been thoroughly enjoying y'alls conversation here, though I don't have anything in particular to add. Etymology and linguistics has always fascinated me 😊
Now there's an expression that sounds odd to my ears, "y'all" and now "y'all's". A bit like the Irish 'yous', perfectly grammatical in that speech context but very odd for those in other verbal communities.
In fact "you" was originally the plural. The singular is "thou". Probably the change in modern standard English came from the polite use of the plural "you", as in French, 'vous' vs 'tu'.
In various Northern English dialects, the thou is still used, especially, in my experience, for emphasis or when disparaging: "it was thou that farted".
Huh! I assumed thou was the informal Vs the formal. But northern English is more "tha", I never heard an accent saying thou like a Shakespearian actor would.*
It always annoys me a little when I hear it misused, but actually the usage is my assumption.
*Edit: although now I read your bio, my experience is Yorkshire, so..
@markhburton @sotolf @econads @afewbugs
Ah, the thorn - still in use in Iceland and the reason "Thou" is now (mis)used the way it is: thethegns.blogspot.com/2012/01…
Ðorn / Þorn (Thorn)
Ðorn / Þorn (Thorn) Hawthorn It occurred to me, as I watched the conservators cleaning dirt from the soft gold of a part of ...thethegns.blogspot.com
Very interesting. It's also, I believe' the source of 'Ye' as in 'Ye Olde Tourist Trap'.
@markhburton @tompearce49 Thanks for this! Couldst thou explain which character was 'ash'?
The tree fares pretty well in scientific nomenclature, as _Fraxinus excelsior_ 🏆
I love that scientific name for it, Fraxinus excelsior! Three days ago I had to cut down a sapling that had volunteered itself in the shrubbery. I've kept it in two pieces which will make excellent staffs - historically used for things like rake and hoe handles, and also, I htink arrow shafts.

I wish I was half as interesting as you. I'm a woman with two engineering degrees who couldn't figure out why nobody was listening to us technical people so I ditched that and did a PhD in communication and studied why nobody listened to doctors and scientists during a pandemic.
So now I'm an expert in why people ignore good scientific information but still have little clue on how to overcome this without a boatload of money and the overthrow of the oligarchy.
Hey, I'm Celeste, a non-binary/trans* computer toucher who is studying computer science. I'm not really an expert in anything but I've been building a home lab for the last 8 years that is starting to fill up my basement and my office. It's a glorious, well-optimized mess.
I've started programming with the age of 7, am proficient in 8 programming languages, and started home-labbing long before I started studying. I had a lot of time between finishing my high school degree and starting at university during the pandemic to learn math, writing good code, self-hosting, networking, security, etc.
(Don't ask me about my home lab, unless you are prepared for a 6h presentation)
I have worked at a data center before as a (junior) system integrator and just started my first real IT job at a startup, which is building a software solution for managing and monitoring complex IT infrastructures using, graphs, and "AI"™
Moving from one country to another with similar, but different language (Norway -> Austria) plant names is one way were I constantly mess up, it seems they had quite different ideas about naming things. So for the Foxglove I think it's called in English, in Norwegian we call them Revebjelle (Fox bell) while in German it's Roter Fingerhut (Red thimble) it's quite fun :) Then you have things that everyone agrees about, like the stinging nettle :p It's fun comparisons yes :D
Fascinating: 'slaters'. There is a similar marine creature called the sea slater. Now I know where the name comes from.
Apparently they make a palatable sauce, like their cousins, shrimps! I haven't tried it. From a Victorian book Let's Eat Insects (though of course they are crustaceans).
