I recently created a new friendica account to write longer posts - @roko

I kinda messed up by deleting a previous account I created, and I can't get the username rokosun anymore, lol. So I went with roko for now. I'm just testing things out now, I probably won't move to it completely until there is good client support for friendica.

I was mostly annoyed by the stupid 500 character limit of mastodon, but friendica also have some cool features like basic text formatting, following RSS feeds, etc

Rokosun reshared this.

Actually I did try that, and he asked friendica devs if it would be possible. But it turned out to be more complicated than we thought, so I had to sadly give up my username. You can read the thread here - social.trom.tf/display/dbc8dc4…

Yeah its fine, I understand why its designed like that. I should've been more cautious before deleting my account.....

When I looked through the git issues, I saw someone else was in the same situation as me. It would be nice if it mention this username reuse problem at the account deletion page of friendica so that others don't make the same mistake.

Oh, that's great to hear ! 😀
Good client support would mean I could use friendica as my main account. Friendica has some cool features like basic text formatting, being able to edit posts (I think mastodon is working on this too), etc, which would be a nice addition to have. Overall I feel like frendica is a really cool platform, it deserves a good client like fedilab :)

Yes, I understand that some instances allow longer posts. Friendica has some other cool features as well, that's what made me choose that. I first thought of using Friendica for writing longer posts, kinda like a blog or something. But if client support is improved then maybe I can use it as my main fediverse account.

Nice to have some limits for training for a while but yeah understand :)

Actually I realized that not having a character limit would allow me to communicate better and more clearly. I noticed this after I started using matrix which don't have any limit. Matrix also allows basic text formatting which I found to be quite useful, Friendica also allows you to format text this way :)

Q. What would you add with all that text space? :]

Not all posts should be as long as a blog or something, but there are surely times when you do need to write long posts. This post is an example for that cause I wrote it in friendica, haha 😄
