You know where you don’t have to worry about such things? Host your videos on a #PeerTube instance and use #Owncast for your live video streaming needs.
@stardust I'm not sure how captions would work on livestreaming, but Owncast has a Twitch-style text chat window at the side which the livestreamers can type or paste text into?
Wouldn't the people uploading videos to youtube get money from ads running on their videos, so they'd be in favor of preventing ads from being blocked?
@chewyadupp From what I hear, the amount video makers get from ads on YT is very small nowadays? That's why so many of them have a sponsor featured in the video itself.

In a 5 hour, 4 parts documentary, we try to explore their world, to understand what makes them human, what makes them enslave their kind, destroy their habitat, and be unaware of their place in this universe. But also what makes them so special.
Through the lives of 5 humans, we look at the culture that creates them, their struggles growing up on this planet, and where they are headed toward.

Alright #CalcKey junkies, I'm a Mastodon instance admin and I'm an engineering group lead at Automattic (think the company of WordPress' founder) who is leading the work to add Mastodon as a supported service for our Jetpack Social product.
That said, what's the sell to get me to spend more time here?
it could be a few different things. What we've added/adding for Mastodon is a "Share to Mastodon" button ( see an example at kraft.blog/2023/02/joining-the… ) and we're adding support for our auto-post function where when you publish a blog post, an excerpt, some media, and a link is published on your socials.
For Twitter, we also had things like tweetswarming where we'd suck in a thread and import it into a new post for those who did huge Twitter threads and realized it should be on their site. Also, had the reverse. Write a post and have it auto-posted as a Twitter thread with sensible breakpoints.
Those latter two were really because of the char count limits of Twitter which I don't think would apply to the Fediverse platforms I've checked out so far.
He's working now on integrating it for all WordPress.com sites and making it a better experience.
Right now, it isn't feature-complete enough for me, personally, to say it's ready for folks who aren't early adopters and okay with rough edges.
The sharing and auto-posting is a bit easier to do since there is the existing model of doing it on legacy social media platforms.
On the Tumblr side of the company, same thing. Want to get it to be ActivityPub-compliant. I don't work over there but I imagine that's a pretty big effort and I don't know where it stands off hand.
Long answer but yes. Having a site published using the ActivityPub protocol is on the horizon.
heh, yeah. Mastodon, at least, had a common share intent URL (e.g. instance.tld/share?title=blah or whatever it was) so we went with Mastodon instead of generic. If all Fediverse had the same URL scheme for share intent, it would have been a no brainer for a generalized button!
could we make this work somehow? And get @dansup@mastodon.social from Pixelfed on board, and Akkoma and Misskey and whoever else makes software for this magic place?

On second thought, I'm not sure if a Share button for articles applies to Pixelfed, since it's a photo sharing platform. But if this is supported by a few more other major platforms, like Lemmy and Akkoma, then this would mean any "Mastodon share" button would practically work as a "Fediverse share" button! This is something we need to standardize. I wonder if @evan@cosocial.ca has any thoughts on this, if there is a way to achieve a standard on that front. I found this project github.com/Uden-AI/fediverse-s… but I think that it would be better if we could somehow have an official (or unofficial, but widely used) universal way of doing it, so that other sites could add Fedi share buttons easily.
That said, I think the most practical option for Automattic would be to ask for your Mastodon API server, let you log in, and then save your key for future likes/shares/whatevs.

@kainoa Could you expand on that? I'm not sure I understand where the API would fit in here, so I'm guessing I'm missing something obvious :)
To me, API means that the visitor aiming to share the post would have to authenticate to their ActivityPub instance to be able to push an update there, but I do not imagine folks would be interested in entering private credentials on sites that are not theirs just to share a post.
Or do you think we should provide the service that would cover all of that? You'd click on the share button, a modal for a service hosted on WordPress.com would open, and there you'd authenticate, then modify / customize the message you want to post, and hit send?

As far as I know there is no FEP for this yet, but we have been discussing introducing a standard for a set of ActivityPub protocol handlers in this issue (the first issue in the fediverse/fediverse-ideas repo!).

Technically, they're called soft limits. The hard limits are the ones you can't go beyond even by typing in the field.
