How people think AI is going to kill them: terminator robots.
How AI is actually going to kill them: by destroying their habitat and drinking all their water.

Well, I'd have to say I'm swooning over #Friendica again, sorry;)
I absolutely love how many protocols it supports, including #diaspora
I'd have to say of all the #decentralized social networks I really loved Diaspora, for its interface and usability, it was well positioned to be a real FB killer, too bad that the Devs took such a bad decision to reject interoperability with other networks.
Anyway, Friendica still allows me to keep tabs on the network, both ways. Great job Devs!

I am afraid that, whatever one may be voting against, a vote for Harris is a vote for supporting Israeli war crimes.
If you want to vote Blue, you may not like this; but it is inescapable, however one may try to rationalize.
As such, I am muting every single supporter of Harris that appears on my feed. I don’t care how few folk I follow, or follow me, but I really don’t want to see posts from people who are OK with the slaughter of innocents.

Friendica is better than I remembered
I'd have to say the #Friendica experience is snappier and nicer than I remember.
The ability to interact with so many different networks and protocols is unmatched, you can even follow RSS feeds.
Add to that an amazing feature set, and its thread viewing is so superior to Mastodon.
Viewing video links from #peertube works great inline as well:)

Just 20 years ago a similar hurricane by the name of Katrina rocked the nation and was part of the 24 he news cycle for months. Katrina was (and rightfully so) a huge deal in America, and recognized as a mega traumatizing event.
It’s amazing to me how jaded the American public and media have become in that time, to where this disaster hardly even makes the news and is forgotten before it’s even joever.
I’m honestly not quite sure what to think of it. Have we become so calloused to the idea of climate change that this isn’t newsworthy? Is this more reflective of the corporate capture of media, and insurers not wanting to pay out for destroyed homes and lives? Or is this just secondary to the overriding effort to further a new war in the Middle East?

But actually, I feel like some engine or something is missing, and there are also not really wings, so it feels a bit off. Maybe a rotatable engine like from a vertical take off plane, or some downwards facing boosters like when a rocket lands could look nice.
follow YT RSS from Friendica?
Hi,
Is it possible to follow YT creators and be alerted to new videos by subbing to their RSS feed in #Friendica ?
It would be amazing to be alerted right from my timeline!

God I love these logs! It makes me want to apply to work for the Blender foundation.

... likely to happen more as time goes on ...
Sad, but true.
... a project that fully embraces IPFS or something similar ...
I wasn't aware of IPFS; I'll have to look into it.
Share their stuff, leave a review, or even just hit like.
Seriously, we love that shit, it's like pet treats.

And of course, now they keep recycling the same fears with classism and racism.
And so many sci-fi writers have been blatantly uninformed and ignorant Ito these issues throughout.

All those "human in the loop" systems are being developed with the knowledge that it would be more profitable to take the human out of the loop at some point. Palantir drools about it.

in reply to Aral Balkan • • •That’s the 20-40 year plan.
For the average person, they’re more likely to have their life threatened by an AI:
- Rejecting their medical needs - organ recipient, insurance (US)
- Deciding that cost cutting measures on the product factory floor are worth the risk to safety relative to likely blowback
- Rejecting their job application
- Devaluing the only work they are able to do, being disabled
- Stealing time in productivity’s name from others who might have seen your pain

Making a massive misinformation generator means it'll misinform in small and big ways, some very noticeable but others will be subtle enough to cause some real damage.

Then it was social media.

OpenAI’s Superalignment team was pushing AI as existential threat when distraction was needed from IP… complications…, labour abuses, and bias.
Now that grounding is creating new issues like impersonation risk and exploit vulnerabilities, suddenly we’re supposed to be looking away at the water?
It’s too convenient and too recurring.
