I am almost at 8k steps. It's not a lot, when compared to some previous days... But I feel like I should listen to my body and relax this afternoon.
I got my steps, I've done some exercises, done some chores as well... Now I'll relax on the couch with some Star Trek. Hopefully it will give my body the rest it needs so I can start again tonight after, again hopefully, some decent sleep... 🤞🏻

I've been following this "mutual safety standards recognition" stuff out of the US/EU talks. This could be really, really bad.
It would mean that US vehicles, like those giant dangerous SUVs and pickup trucks, could be freely imported into the EU in volume without having to pass EU vehicle safety standards (like pedestrian safety).
I haven't seen any organised resistance to this. Does anybody know any other organisations that are fighting this?

It's bad enough that small volumes of these stupid pickup trucks have been (illegally) imported into the EU under the IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) lately. The mutual safety standards recognition would totally open the floodgates.
Just a reminder that this is the most popular-selling car in Europe next to the most popular-selling car in the US.
We don't want these dangerous trucks in EU cities.

What I found hilarious is that tough real men with the F-150's transport the fragile groceries on the back seat. One doesn't even need the bed.
We got a car even smaller than the Sandero and I got 1 m³ of smelly pond tarp to the waste management facility. Fold the rear seats, unfold a big tarp, put in all the junk, works fine.
But I guess some people need a personality prosthesis and buy an "Autobahn Dominator", either type shark (Audi) or aggressive beaver (BMW).
The IVA is supposed to only be used for specialty cars (like classic cars or one-off unusual vehicles for special handicaps), so that they don't need to meet modern EU safety standards.
But it's being used to import production US pickup trucks and the EU is way too slow to crack down on this abuse.
This is not a legal use of the IVA.
I agree it's a changeable political matter. However, I'm unable to find the number of lives lost or accidents caused by these imported cars on European roads.

I see these and similar, even smaller pickups or SUVs and wonder what is wrong with these people.
Is their penis tiny, are they unfucked, do they have inferiority complexes because they didn't go to college or get vocational training, is their IQ very low (most of them are intellectually incapable of using their turn signals)?
Do they have inferior jobs, such as real estate agents, insurance salesmen, bank managers?

The EU might (foolishly) recognise them for legal road use, that doesn’t magically make them fit into European sized parking spaces. Local councils need to enforce parking control ruthlessly; when they exede the parking bay, they need to be remorselessly fined.
Owners will soon get the message they are not welcome.
Sadly, the solution for the parking space problem would be, making them bigger. Seen it too often.

The most likely people to own these giant trucks are wealthy people who use them as status symbols. These people also have the most political influence.
So when their oversized SUVs don't fit in parking spaces, the city response is to change the guidelines for parking space design, rather than to ban or charge higher fees on the oversized vehicles. Every time.
@daarin In Amsterdam I see the pick-up truck variety of the big SUV mostly in the hands of construction workers coming from villages in the province.
The wealthy mostly prefer the Range Rover and Mercedes G-series for status I have the impression.
Some of them, at least, are heavy enough to be classed as HGVs (over 3.5 tonnes): The Rivian R1T weights 3.8t tonnes.

It seems that these pickup trucks are mostly registered in the name of small businesses. The (huge) cost (€1000 per month extremecars.nl) brings the profitability down.
Less profit, less taxes on that profit. While at the same time the 'cost' of driving such a truck is experienced as a perk for the window cleaner, brick layer, plumber and such.
I wonder if the tax authorities can come up with some bureaucratic rule to outlaw this. Can't think of anything, can you?

These big vehicles sell well because the car companies make a lot of money selling them. The EU car manufacturers would love to see the same thing happen in Europe.
Relying on vicios car resellers to not follow through with what politics promised some sketchy dude from the US is like the worst defense ever.
If there is a law, they will use it to sell their cars. No matter how little intention the european politicians had when signing it.

If you have to allow them to be imported but make two additional changes to current laws:
Road damage scales with the third power of axel weight, so road tax should as well. Buy a car twice the weight, pay eight times the road tax.
In case of any collisions, the heavier vehicle is assumed to be at fault unless there is evidence to the contrary. No-fault collisions are automatically paid by the heavier car's insurance. Good luck buying insurance for one of those monsters (and you must, to be allowed to driver it legally on the road).

@thatonewalnut A city does not normally have the authority to ban a nationally legal vehicle from their streets. There have already been problems with this when cities want to enforce different emissions standards.
A country can't really function if different cities have differing vehicle requirements. That's why these things are done at a national level.

I've heard of cases where such vehicles were granted individual approval here in Germany before Trump, so we already have a small handful of such cars on the road.
However, I don't think those oversized cars will get very far. Our roads aren't built for those, and as soon as Trump is dead, the policy will be reversed.

Bloody hell. I've seen a picture of an American SUV beside a Range Rover, which is one the most obnoxiously big cars I see here in the UK and the Range Rover was dwarfed by it. American sized SUVs would be a disaster in Europe.

Hey Europeans, this is a bad idea. A while back, the US passed a fuel efficiency law called CAFE. It contained a loophole. Basically, cars didn't have to get better fuel efficiency if they grew larger faster. Our car manufacturers went brain dead. Our pedestrians and cyclists are dying. Our all-electrics are deathtraps built by fascist neo-Nazis.

Emotions everywhere 🐾
So much has happened the last few months. It’s not been easy, its been very painful, both physical as emotional. I endured the worst pains ever. First my hip dislocated and I needed an extra surgery. That same week, my furry soulmate passed away and I have been grieving for her ever since. There hasn’t been a day yet where I have not shed a few tears over the loss of Arwen.
Some days, they seem to go well. I feel a bit better. I get my chores done. My exercises are going relatively smooth. And I feel like I am improving some. And then, out of no-where, I get “reminded” again of being alone… I have had a few moments where I felt like I saw a shadow of Arwen in one of her spots, or when I was in bed, I thought I heard her nails clicking on the floor, like she was slowly walking through the room. And it just makes me weep like I’ve just lost her. The worst of it is, one of the memories that is plagueing me is how she looked at me during her last night. Those eyes, that sadness, the hidden pain, no longer being able to remain hidden from me… 😭
I have lost pets before. I have experienced the pain and loss several times before I had to say goodbye to Arwen. But this one is hitting me the hardest. Maybe because I am all alone now, when I lost my previous furry ones, I always was in a relationship, so I could “share the grief”. But Arwen and I had a special bond, she was my furry soulmate, the way she was with me, I never really had that before. And, to make it worse than it already would be, when I had to say goodbye to her, I was still dealing with some major trauma from a few days previous, and I just wasn’t strong enough to deal with it all.
Which is partially untrue though, I guess… 🤔 Because yeah, I felt like the worst and I was very traumatized, but still I realized what was happening during that last night and I did do all I could do to be there for Arwen and to relieve her from the pain and suffering. I did make that hardest choice and yeah, it wasn’t hard because I knew it was the best for Arwen, it was hard because I would be adding more pain to my already fragile state. I knew that Arwen needed to be set free from her painful, worn out, body. I never wanted her to be in any pain, and I feel that she had been suffering longer than she wanted to show me. And that’s part of the emotion that I am still struggling with…
I feel like I let it get too far. She tried to hide her suffering, and I was so occupied with my surgery, with my recovery, and I needed her so much with that, that I “just” didn’t see how the (then unknown to me) tumor was affecting her. We were also exteriencing a heatwave at the time, so part of me thoought it could just be the weather being too much for her at the time. Which probably didn’t help…
It’s been 10 weeks since I have had to say my goodbye to her. And I promised her there and then that I would not give up. That I would keep believing in myself like she (Arwen) had believed in me. And, I have been doing that! All the physical pain that I have endured during the last 10 weeks… I grumbled. I moped. I have been angry about it a few times. But, I haven’t given up!
I wanted to. I felt so drained and exhausted and I thought that I had given all that I could. The spoons were all out and I felt like this was just gonna be as good as it could get. But then I reminded myself to the promise I had made to Arwen during her last night. Even if she would not be at my side anymore, I know she would live on in my heart. Her support, her believe in me, it was all in there. So, a few times during the night, I cried while I “talked to Arwen”, and somehow it felt like she was still here, with me, listening as only she could… Like she understood every word of it, and she would look at me and I knew it would be OK. Some things did take their time and efforts, but in the end, Arwen was alwys right. Things did have a way of working out. Not always all the way I hoped for, but often it was close enough.
Still, it is such a weird sensation. To see some shadows move in the crate and think she’s in there, sleeping. To walk through a darkend room towards the loo, and think that Arwen is laying near the bedroom door, by the way the light came through the curtains and cast some shadows. To lay in bed and think that I can hear the ticking of her nails on the floor… Deep down, I know she could never cast a shadow or make any kind of sound ever again. But somehow, it feels like she is still with me at times. And I just want it to be true because life without her just isn’t the same… It’s empty, lonely, with a lot less love… 😢
So some days, I am doing fairly OK. I had a decent night, I had a good time at the gym, I have been able to do some chores and/or my other exercises. I can feel pretty good and just sit down to relax a bit. Often, that’s when something will trigger me into thinking of her, missing her, needing her… And I break down and cry. I try to remember all the good in her, and I cry some more. I know this will take a lot of tears and time. I guess a bond like ours is just too special to “get over easily”, as the loss is just huge and painful. I know I “just” need to get used to being alone, to not having to care about her anymore, to having a house as empty as it is now… Some day, hopefully next year, I hope that I can open my heart and home for a new choccy love. It never will replace Arwen, but it will fill up an emptiness that she left behind. It will give me an extra purpose to do my best in my every day life. And I know I can do a fairly decent job at that, because I have learned it all from the best…

The thing is, this sun soaking start is just the beginning of my happy trash day Thursday. Thanks to the wife's efforts yesterday. 🤗
Somehow, her brain turned her Wednesday into a Thursday. At least long enough for her to help me out.
As we got busy with our waste basket dumping into the trash bin for rolling down to the curb today, she decided to save me from that task by rolling it down herself yesterday.💪👍
A day early, but much appreciated and kinda makes me laugh, thinking how the early move has probably surprised the weather gods and put a burr in their britches this morning. 👌😆
Welp, my coffee sipping is done, and Heather has hollered. So, it's up off my seat, moving my feet and getting #myday properly underway. 🫡💪
So, once again, I wish y'all a terrific Thursday today. 🤗🖖

The gripping mechanism only worked the right way around, so I've always been used to the right way being the only way.

It's more important to use it than how you hang it.
