If some trom.tf services look a little broken (design wise) it is because our main TROMsite.com server is down for the past hours. Very likely an issue with the hosting provider. It depends on them whenever this server will be up and running. Probably a network issue in their data center. #tromlive

Our Peertube got updated. There are some cool new features:

1. Automated subtitles based on machine learning. Select the language of your video and an automated subtitle will be created. We do not know how good this feature is, but it is worth a shot.
2. Ability to edit any subtitle.
3. You can cut any of your videos now, using the Studio. There you can also add an intro, outro, and watermark. Basic video editing in the browser!
4. Ability to auto save the permanent livestreams - don't lose those again!
5. Live streams now get converted into multiple formats.
6. Share on the Fediverse:

Soon we will add a Theme Switch to TROMjaro :)


You will be able to click any color combination from the list and change your theme based on the color accent and dark/light mode. And unlike Pop OS, Deepin, Ubuntu, Gnome and the like, our Theme Switch changes the theme for some 90% of all apps out there, compared to some 10-20% for these other distros.

We have increased the file size limit for send.trom.tf/ from 3GB to 5GB. Compare with the very popular WeTransfer and we offer 3 times more storage. Plus we can store all files up to a week. On top of this all files are encrypted, and you can send an email with the files from our server directly, to anyone. You can combine multiple files into one archive and even password protect them.

Oh, and of course, our TROM Send is trade-free. We do not want anything in return: not your currency, not your data, not your attention. WeTransfer wants all of those in return for a lesser service.

We have expanded the storage space for our trom.tf server by 400 more GB of SSD. This means that we now have some 800+ free GB of the server. That's great. Should be fine for this year at least. Thank you to everyone who still donates to TROM. #tromlive

Our monthly budged updated. We now have around 2.100 Euros in total. This is meant to keep all of the TROM projects alive and relevant. Some 30 websites or so. See tromsite.com/tools/ . It is of course not enough. TROM II documentary has stalled now, because of lack of funding. We, the ones behind TROM, are trying to work (trade) to make some money to support this project and continue the TROM II documentary. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult.

We still get some monthly donations or one time donations from time to time, which is fantastic! So if you think TROM creates something important, please consider a donation tromsite.com/donate/

Our TROM.tf server's diskspace is getting kinda full. We have a ton of services so this is to be expected. We are trying to be more restrictive with our Peertube instance so that we may be able to remove more content that does not fit the thematic. When we reach 80% diskspace full we will need to do something about it.

We can migrate our Peertube storage to an object storage. Maybe we will do a campaign to raise the funds for that. May be as low as 250 Euros for a year of 2TB storage. That is twice as much as we have for Peertube right now. And we can free up some space on the server for Nextcloud and other services. Right now Peertube takes up about 70% of the storage on the server.

TROMjaro 2022.05.19

Usual Manjaro updates plus:

  • Added a font manager. This one.
  • Added the Gnome Clocks: Alarms, World Clocks, Stopwatch. Do not forget to fix the libadwaita-non-respecting-the-theme thing for it. See this.
  • Speaking of that we have removed the Gnome Calculator because we could not force it to use the system’s theme, because of the same “libadwaita-non-respecting-the-theme thing”. And we added the pantheon-calculator. Nice, little and useful.
