We have our entire TROM channel there - videos.trom.tf/c/trom/videos - Hundreds of videos. And this year I will start a new video series. Some videos will also be about the fediverse, peertube, and FOSS.
We recently started our motorhome adventures (very family friendly channel) - videos.trom.tf/c/tromhome and we are posting there twice a week or so.
Be Brave To Act made by @Dima has really great and original content about volunteering. We will try to help him keep the channel updated - he mainly posts on youtube.
We need more original Peertube creators and not simply those who "mirror" their Youtube channels there. If people know that the channel X posts only on Peertube and not on Youtube, it may make these people follow on Peertube. But if people know that channel X posts on Youtube and Peertube is just like a mirror....is different.
You and others need to help us and people like us, if possible, to get the Peertube content out. So that people get to use Peertube more often.
I choose to post on Peertube first, or only, despite not reaching as many people as I would on Youtube, but I do it because I think it is worth the effort to promote this sane alternative to the giant ad-platform that Youtube is.
And thank you for what you've created. By "helping" us, I mean perhaps promote good and original Peertube content on your homepage and also share it if possible. So the newcomers get to see that Peertube is not just the awesome software you've built, but people use it to create original/good content.
We live in a world where everyone is busy, everyone is consumed, everyone seems confused. Money, social credits, ads, data collection, prices and billionaires. Climate change? Who cares! A one-marb...
thank you for what you do, we need original peertube content. In my very small channel I upload exclusively to peertube, but unfortunately I get very few views and almost no comments
I agree, we need much more promotion so it can take traction, that seems to be the biggest hurdle at the moment.
In it's current state #peertube and it's connection to the #fediverse via #activitypub is already far superior to #youtube ! In addition to so many other features:)
One thing I think that is really needed is perhaps a way to "boost" content that could point to a central database on #joinpeertube so we would have a way of discovering popular videos.

Actually, we don't have the human resources (and therefore the time) to do what you suggest on our own. We couldn't imagine promoting videos without first reviewing them, and watching videos... takes a lot of time! 1/2
What we could imagine is a community effort to curate exclusive PeerTube videos. Something like what @FediVideo already does.
That way, our small team could promote them more easily! Either through our social medias or by adding them to the front page of joinpeertube.org.
Soooo... sorry for not saying "Yes, we'll work on it ASAP!" even though we'd love to do so! Maybe in the future, with the help of our community, your suggestion will become possible!
For what it is worth, the line between YouTube and PeerTube is not always as stark as this. For example @michellemay gets most of her views on YouTube but she features the Fediverse in her videos, she even did a video dedicated entirely to the Fedi which she put on YouTube.
Some are on both YouTube and PeerTube equally, and will interact on both platforms.
I think it is worth welcoming these kinds of accounts.
YouTube can be a gateway to PeerTube if we welcome these kinds of accounts which have feet in both worlds.
This will be especially true if/when YouTube enshittifies further, PeerTube could become the better way of viewing videos for a lot of people if they see it as an option presented by the YouTube channels they follow.
Going back to Michelle's channel, this kind of thing is excellent for the Fediverse:

@FediVideo the problem with discoverability for me hasn't been the "second hand youtube videos" (I found most of the content creators I watch on PeerTube from their social links on YouTube). The problem (for me as a user, I bet has a content creator it is the same to be found) is looking for content, on YouTube it is (even if worsening daily) an easy experience because all the content is in one place. For example, using NewPipe allows me to search the local or federated PeerTube instances that I have had to add (try saying that three times without failing) on some forgotten menu. Is there a way to "connect" the search on PeerTube to the whole federation (without leaving PeerTube, ergo, keeping people inside the same "portal"/experience)? I know this is a centralised way of thought, but someone coming from centralised platforms (not being technical-minded) will quit after a few seconds.
@tio thank you for the content, I've subscribed to several channels on the instance and I'll be showing them to my family and friends.
@jt_rebelo @FediVideo I believe PeerTube supports integrated Seipa-search? Could be mistaken. I think it's something each instance/platform can enable.
@bloodaxe I haven't found it working that well (without being logged in an the instance itself or in a PeerTube compatible app). I've been using sepiasearch, then adding the instance to NewPipe, and then selecting the instance and looking for the video, subscribing to the channel/author. On YouTube I'd search in-app, select the video or channel/author and subscribe. Those extra steps might be putting many people off (I know the official PeerTube nightly app minimises this with the built-in search, I hope it'll solve the problem once it goes into the wild, can't come fast enough). @FediVideo @peertube @tio
@jt_rebelo @FediVideo yes absolutely, any friction that can be eliminated probably should be. If the goal is reaching as wide an audience as possible ofc.
I agree that Peertube loses something good about centralization: a way to search the entire Peertube network. I think joinpeertube.org/browse-conten… does that well tho. And every instance can enable global searches like we do with videos.trom.tf - tho this is a general issue with decentralization and even these global searches will not search through all of the content.
One server needs to discover another and its contents in order to be aware of them. But this technology I think is still in its early stages and looking at how much Peertube evolved over the past 2-3 years it gives me hope that there will be better solutions for this.
I like the idea of grayjay.app/ where you are following "creators" and not channels. Can be Youtube, Peertube, or whatever. The fediverse needs to be integrated with the other platforms like this through some sort of app maybe....

Federation apps (under the same protocol) could search everywhere the creators and their creations, like grayjay, yes (wasn't remembering it existed). @peertube love the work you have been doing (and the steady betterment of PeerTube as a whole), and @FediVideo 's work for a better Fediverse too. PeerTube's own Sepia Search is trying to cover having a single search system in one place. It uses a blocklist system to screen out bad content when it's reported.
I'm trying to do my own single place to discover content at fedi.video but using an allowlist system instead, so I only allow accounts to appear on the site if I manually approve them.
These are the two ways of providing a unified search for discovery, I think there's a place for both?
I understand about vetting the videos. I also have to do this with the content we promote. Takes time indeed. But somehow this needs to be done bit by bit so that people understand Peertube is not just a place to mirror youtube videos. You do enough work on the software already so I am thinking if there are ways for me/us to help with the content discovery.
Maybe if you'd have some guidelines as to what can go on the joinpeertube page some people could "apply" to get their content featured.

Solution (not really):

TROMjaro FORUM WILL BE DEAD: - There is a huge issue it seems with Discourse (the TROMjaro forum software we use). It did not receive any updates in months and months. And it fails to restore any backup on any system. Thus if we move to a new server in order to update to YNH Debian 12, we cannot restore the forum.
For what it's worth, I had more problems updating Ubuntu on my wife's old laptop from 22.04 LTS to 24.04 LTS than I did migrating my laptop from Debian 11 to Debian 12... But I don't have server stuff running on either of those, so I don't have the complexity you have!
How awesome that on the fediverse you can follow our Peertube TROMhome channel directly via tromhome@videos.trom.tf - no need to have any Peertube account. Follow it from your Friendica, Mastodon, or whatever network you are using.
This is light years ahead of the BS of Facebook, Youtube, Twitter and the like, who are islands of ads, controlled by a few rich people.

Un virage libéral et autoritaire
Javier Milei a été investi président de l’Argentine le 10 décembre 2023. L’irruption de Milei au pouvoir est loin de s’expliquer uniquement en termes électoraux. Elle est le corollaire de 15 ans de crise sociale imposée par des décennies de néolibéralisme en Argentine, d’une profonde fragmentation sociale, d’un changement culturel et idéologique à la base, d’un système démocratique représentatif dépassé, et d’un épuisement des projets autoproclamés progressistes. Le candidat de l’extrême droite libertarienne avait promis à ses électeurs et électrices de mettre fin à la corruption des « castes politiciennes », d’en finir avec l’inflation et avec toute forme de « politique d’assistanat ». Cela s’est évidemment traduit par des attaques violentes contre le mouvement social. En minorité au Parlement, il est obligé de faire passer ses lois par Décrets de nécessité et d’urgence (DNU).
Il n’a donc pas les coudées franches mais peut compter sur sa complice, la vice-présidente Victoria Villaruel, négationniste notoire. C’est elle qui a tranché l’égalité parfaite au vote des réformes dérégulatrices (loi Omnibus) de Milei au Sénat, en accordant le dernier vote nécessaire pour les faire passer.
Il multiplie donc les tentatives de s’autonomiser du pouvoir législatif en présidant par DNU, qu’il promulgue et applique avant même qu’ils soient votés par l’Assemblée et le Sénat. Il adopte aussi des mesures très répressives contre le mouvement social. Il a franchi un cap significatif en accusant les manifestantes et manifestants d’être des « terroristes » préparant un « coup d’État ». Ce vocabulaire laisse présager la mise en application de lois anti-terroristes à l’encontre du mouvement social. Le président attaque déjà ouvertement les organisations sociales, médiatiquement et matériellement : les perquisitions à domicile sont chose commune et les menaces permanentes. L’usage de la répression parvient pour l’heure à faire appliquer ce plan d’austérité très violent.
À côté de ça, il est resté dans une logique de rupture et de provocation. Milei veut se forger une image omniprésente et tumultueuse. Son équipe manie le buzz avec une grande efficacité, ce qui lui a permis d’obtenir un très gros score chez les 16-25 ans lors de l’élection présidentielle. L’homme qui passe deux heures par jour sur X crée polémique sur polémique, l’une d’elle ayant même conduit à un conflit diplomatique avec l’Espagne. Milei s’affiche aussi à l’étranger : Israël, USA, Italie, Salvador… rencontrant Musk, Zuckerberg, Bukele, et Trump.
Un gouvernement « turbo-capitaliste »
Depuis 2001, la vitesse à laquelle les conquêtes sociales sont attaquées est sans précédent. À la fin du deuxième semestre de 2023, juste avant l’élection, 41,7 % de la population vivait sous le seuil de pauvreté selon l’INDEC [1]. Aujourd’hui, la dernière estimation grimpe à 52 %.
C’est que Javier Milei, « l’homme à la tronçonneuse », n’a pas chômé : prix et loyers libérés (+107 % d’inflation accumulée depuis décembre), fin des subventions aux transports (augmentation des prix de 252 %), à l’énergie (gaz +300 %, électricité +150 %). Il a également gelé les chantiers publics, fait des coupes budgétaires tous azimuts, supprimé les financements de l’INCAA [2] et procédé à 25 000 licenciements dans le secteur public. Si on ajoute à cela la baisse relative des salaires et des retraites de 35 % en moyenne, le pouvoir d’achat des classes populaires est en chute libre et on imagine facilement la catastrophe sociale engendrée par LLA [3]. Ces coupes lui permettent de maximiser les profits des capitalistes pour qui il déroule le tapis rouge. Il a notamment signé des accords avec Elon Musk pour l’exploitation du lithium, présent en quantité sur le territoire. Milei s’en prend aussi régulièrement à la communauté LGBTI et a supprimé les financements de l’INADI [4]. Face à ces attaques sur les classes populaires, la CGT argentine [5] s’écrase, muselée par une direction bureaucratique et péroniste.
L’espoir est permis
Si pour l’instant, les classes moyennes restent spectatrices, une grande partie de la population n’arrive plus à tenir et le vase ne peut que déborder. Loin de la retenue de la CGT, la CTA [6] reste plus combative. Les mobilisations en mémoire des disparu·es de la dictature ou pour le sauvetage de l’Université publique ont été fédératrices (plus de 800 000 personnes sur la seule ville de Buenos Aires). Mais nous sommes encore loin d’une vraie résistance unitaire, populaire et pérenne. La résistance au niveau national doit viser à unir les forces dispersées notamment par des grèves générales et des mobilisations contre les lois anti-populaires. En dépassant les divisions entre partis et syndicats, il s’agit de bâtir des alliances solidaires et indépendantes pour défendre les intérêts de la majorité des travailleurs et travailleuses. Au niveau local et régional, les anarchistes ont pour rôle de construire une résistance articulée contre les avancées du secteur privé et les ajustements budgétaires imposés. Dans un contexte de privatisations et de politiques extractivistes, il est crucial de proposer une gestion directe et collective des ressources stratégiques, inspirée par l’autogestion et la démocratie directe, pour défendre les biens communs et les droits des communautés.

You do enough work on the software already so I am thinking if there are ways for me/us to help with the content discovery.
Maybe if you'd have some guidelines as to what can go on the joinpeertube page some people could "apply" to get their content featured.
