For whomever develops #raccoon for #friendica I just wanted to say, wow!!! Amazing app that was so desperately needed!
And for anyone who prefers #friendica as their gateway to the #fediverse I highly recommend it
You can get it on fdroid here

The screenshots don't do it justice, check it out!

Let's spread awareness of #peertube as a powerful and free alternative to corporate platforms. #foss #opensource #surveillance joinpeertube.framalab.org/
Did you know if you, as a creator, would like to continue publishing to #YouTube, it is actually very easy to synchronize/mirror your videos to a peertube account (if the instance allows this) automatically.
So basically, after an initial one-time setup, you will now have a presence outside GAFAM and corporate control.... baby steps;)
In addition, since it's compatible with #activitypub it's possible to follow your videos much like a 2 way RSS from the #Fediverse #mastodon platform of your choice. AND viewers can comment directly from here!!
It would be awesome to create a hashtag like #discoverpeertube to highlight interesting videos available there.
I'll start:

*please boost and follow the hashtag if you'd like to highlight this amazing alternative or better yet post any cool videos you find there as well:)

I'm so happy to see #opensource #foss projects supporting non-corporate platforms like #peertube :) @Penpot :penpot:
Make sure to give them a follow using #activitypub to get alerted to all new videos that they post... and as an added bonus you can comment directly from the #fediverse client of your choice:)

My god, that's terrifying, and likely to happen more as time goes on and the fediverse becomes more widely used.
I really hope at one point there is a project that fully embraces IPFS or something similar to host these services out of the reach of Gov agencies. Not sure how that would be achieved, but the world needs it badly.
That and encrypted DMs, really, that should be priority number 1
I hear you, but if I really wanted to do off the record communications, I would simply use a separate encrypted messenger.
I just hope at one point that it would become obvious that leaving this wide open for abuse from unscrupulous admins is not a good idea.

I'm using an old PC, so it's powerful enough...thanks, I'll consider it.
[Bug]: Unable to import following.csv
### What happened? I setup a new instance using Yunohost on an ARM board (Orange PI). I cannot add people to groups, but that is a lower priority I can live without.Codeberg.org
After investigating the forums at forum.yunohost.org there don't seem to be any topics at all.
Calckey: Unable to upload follows and other .csv lists
I and a fellow Yunohoster installed Calckey instances and face same issue of unable to upload lists downloaded from our previous instances. The bug is logged here: #9999 - [Bug]: Unable to import following.csv - calckey - Codeberg.YunoHost Forum
Just a quick update about the #yunohost #calckey issue of not being able to import followers ... turns out that this may be something inherited from #misskey .
I just recently uninstalled #calckey due to this issue (I'm waiting until this is resolved) and tried #misskey in its place ... sadly it is not able to do this either:(
I'm not sure if this has something to do with #yunohost #calckey #misskey or the combination of both somehow
SW is neutral. Users and instance operators are not. Pick the SW that meets your desire. Snac2 seems to be on the other end of the feature spectrum from Misskey or Calckey of minimalist verses full featured. Tell me how you like Snac2 if you try it.
If you're currently on a massive server like mastodon.social, you might want to consider moving your account to a smaller server. You can keep your followers when you change servers, here's how to do it: mstdn.social/@feditips/1079394…
You can find reliable servers at joinmastodon.org/communities (all the servers listed there agree to the covenant at joinmastodon.org/covenant). Try to pick one with fewer people.
There are lots of good things about smaller servers:
-Better moderation, because there are more staff per member.
-Smaller servers tend to have more personality, with a village feel.
-The local timeline on smaller servers is much more readable.
-Smaller servers protect the Fediverse as a whole from being taken over, because lots of smaller servers are harder to buy than a few big servers.
-It's easier to make a difference on smaller servers. It's easier to discuss things with the admin and other members.

If you want, you can move your Mastodon account from one instance (server) to another. Moving lets you take your followers, follows and some settings with you. 1.Mastodon 🐘

in reply to Luddite (under protest) • •As with all the different federated platforms, each will require its own account, which IMHO is actually a good thing.
Yes, you can link videos within a Lemmy/Kbin thread that points to the video, just like you would with any other video link.
However, when it comes to interactivity/comments in order for this to happen a user needs to follow the channel, for example try following this @Blender
From the point you start following, it will pop up in your timeline like any other user and your comments to it will show up on their instance, just like a YouTube comment.

in reply to LPS • • •I have been able to post in a Lemmy community from an Mbin instance without having a Lemmy account, so the separate account limitation is not a universal limitation. Hence why I asked. In any case, I appreciate the answer.
I’ll also say that there is a privacy issue with this design. If I am in a video, my appearance, voice, & part of the world I am in are all revealed & subject to facial rec. I don’t generally want my biometrics to then be linked to my threadiverse accts.

in reply to LPS • • •I would never touch Youtube. YT also blocks me anyway. Nor would I disclose my identity to peertube beyond what’s unavoidable as far as biometrics goes.
It would be useful if peertube would add the capability to post to Lemmy (as Kbin does). Until then, we have the burden of creating an extra kbin or lemmy acct just to add a link.
