If we priced externalities into the cost of fossil fuels, it’s not a profitable business.
The cleanup costs in California will be triple the industry’s projected profits, and that doesn’t even include cleaning up CO₂ and CH₄ from the atmosphere.

ARTIST FRIENDS and FRIENDS OF ARTISTS:
I'm strongly against AI-art, and a SF zine who is publishing one of my stories has a need for HUMAN MADE ART (this is a paying gig), but the deadline is very tight on this. So I'm putting out my feelers to anyone who is an artist or knows someone interested in doing cover art for a SF magazine (deadline: May 28th).
Email me (susankayeq@gmail.com) for details. Thanks for sharing!

The problem with billionaires is that they’re billionaires.
Hi all, I have made a #Hometown release that brings us up to date with Mastodon v4.0.4.

This is a security release, that updates us to Mastodon v4.0.4. The security bug affected servers that use LDAP for authentication, which is not enabled by default (or indeed, usually at all) on Ho...GitHub

You can find more about their designs in the link.
(My entire art presence is based off me being way too thirsty for tea, in the innocent sense of the word of course)

I'd like to thank @supakaity@blahaj.zone for adding an edit feature to #Calckey. Within a day that I've been able to use this, it's been such a huge quality of life improvement for me. I no longer have to stress out because I misspelled something or forgot a word in a sentence.
She does so much great work. Please show some appreciation and love for this incredible Calckey developer!
💓
thanks Chris!
I hope the editing functionality improves everyone who uses our software's experience on the fediverse.
I know a lot of people cited lack of editing as one of the detractors from being able to move across, so hopefully they now have additional choices.
That's what the fediverse should be: a bunch of small to middle sized instances and largest choice driving innovation and growth.
Cramming as many people onto a stagnated platform as you can, milking them for donations and then not providing the required amount of moderation, protection and new functionality is not the proper way forward, in my opinion.
So if there's anyone out there who's been on a mega instance and waiting to move, now might be the time. With editing functionality, improvements to moderation and tooling, and a lot of quality of life improvements in the pipeline, why not jump to a new instance where your needs, safety and visibility is important?

in reply to anubis2814 • • •In the right context, mass transit should be "free" in the sense that it is supported by general taxes, not fares. Eliminate all friction of using the system, and create an incentive to use what you're paying for.
This may be a problem with multi-jurisdictional systems where users aren't paying the local taxes. (Of course, nobody seems to worry about that problem with public roads!)

in reply to anubis2814 • • •Roads in many countries do make a profit by way of fuel taxes. In most of Europe, the fuel tax revenue significantly exceeds the cost of building and maintaining the roads.
It seems that in the US, they break even at the federal level and usually lose money at the state and city level, suggesting that higher state fuel taxes and a means of distributing some of the revenue to cities would be appropriate.
