Blender Tip: When clicking and dragging on input boxes in Blender, many of them have hard limits, but most can be bypassed by typing in the box instead. These limits are around to help prevent accidentally grinding your computer to a halt, but don't let that stop you. If you need 10 levels of subdivision, go ahead, click on the box and tell that modifier who's boss.

Technically, they're called soft limits. The hard limits are the ones you can't go beyond even by typing in the field. Soft limits are not always there to prevent long computations but often to prevent most users from using physically inaccurate values (e.g. a diffuse shader with RGB values > 1 or < 0), but still give artistic control to those who want to break the laws of physics.

I've never felt more positive about Ed Sheeran. He definitely gets copyright right.

"Copyright was designed to benefit the middlemen and gatekeepers, such as the record labels, over the artists themselves. That’s why the labels have a long history of never paying artists. ... modern copyright is stifling rather than incentivizing music creation — directly in contrast to what we’re told it’s supposed to be doing"

The sponsors of the EARN IT Act and the STOP CSAM Act have made it clear they want to surveil user messages. We can still stop these bills, if there’s enough public pushback. The Senate is listening. eff.org/deeplinks/2023/05/dang…

The US makes clear that it's fine with End to End encryption, as long as it can listen in on at least one of those ends.

Next time you think "end to end encryption" at least think about who's controlling those ends. You're not controlling one of them, and soon you may not control the other either. So you're doing E2E encryption... but to what end?

Did you know that the hardware database #hNode has detailed instructions on how to identify the hardware in your computer? Use the commands to see what's in your computer and whether or not it is compatible with #freesoftware u.fsf.org/3ui u.fsf.org/3uh

I just announced legislation to limit use of guns by security guards. We must amend local law to prohibit guards from drawing weapons just to protect property. Human life is more important than property.

Github down? I hadn’t noticed.

Might be a good time to check out Codeberg.

I will probably get slammed for this but a remote storage is just a remote storage. The main difference is that GitHub is repackaging your code and offering it as their product.

Misskey and its clones reminds me of MySpace

It does many things, and the UI is packed with distracting elements like the current date represented in progress bars (lol why tho?)

I wish them all the best, maybe I'm old, but I like the simplicity of Mastodon

in reply to dansup

id take anything over mastodon now if i could find a suitable software for my main microblogging needs. Calckey is beautiful and im sure with time it could be my primary software.
in reply to dansup

You can simplify the layout (there are three modes, with the simplest being a basic reverse chronological timeline).

All the dates and stuff are "widgets", of which there are more!, that are removed in the simplified view.

Calckey has a high degree of customisability it seems.

I don't care if BlueSky gains popularity over Mastodon. At this point, I don't wanna be on the dance floor with the cool kids, imma be in the side room with the five weirdos I like.

@kainoa Hi Panos, would it makes sense for the Calckey devs to do a writeup on how they're implemented Quote Posts, on somewhere like the FEP repo (codeberg.org/fediverse/fep ), so that we can point implementers at it?

We planned to add that support. We will first fix all bugs on our latest release and bring small improvements.
Then we will work on the Calckey support.

PS: We won't apply for the 150$ bounty.

in reply to Fedilab Apps

This will be amazing. Already the best mastodon app for android (by far) - adding calckey support will just move it to top for *key instances as well.

mkorostoff.github.io/1-pixel-w… this is a good illustration of how obscene a billion is... (someone please repost this on something that isn't msgithub so I don't have to keep sharing this version)

Witnessing a few (organic??!!) convos between liberals lamenting how "left leaning" billionaires don't organize, and help save democracy.

Newsflash: People who pursue money to the point of becoming billionaires simply do not "lean left."

Lots of folks don't realize this because: Corporately owned media (and the PR flaks who surround billionaires)

1) are really- unlikely to explain how much a billion dollars of personal wealth is. It's an obscene amount.

2) know that spinning a stories about "heroic" billionaires protects their clients and their own jobs.

There -may- be a few left leaning ultra wealthy/millionaires...

But ALL billionaires exploit. Full stop.

Billionaires exploit in order to **climb up hierarchies of wealth.**

Both billionaires and right wingers LIKE and believe in hierarchy based living. It's really about that simple.

First (mostly) working cut of the filter UI for #relatica so too stoked not to share it. This shows several things. First, multiple filters. Second, can choose to hide it behind a warning card or make it disappear entirely (the red bar which will be an empty widget when run in release mode). Third, you can see that posts by certain people are filtered (by content in the post) but others from that same person are not. Fourth, filtering on domains and even wildcards (the *graph.social). Lastly, posts hidden behind a warning card can toggle it back hidden with the additional "hide" button on the upper-right of the card. Still have some rough edges but the whole system before I can push out the next version but client-side filtering is now wired up and ready to go. #relatica #friendica

I do realize now that my code that goes from whatever this gets handed back to me as to something the user can edit breaks under this scenario. I think the span properties are being ripped out...have to add that to the bug report :).
in reply to Hank G ☑️

Lookin' very good! Friendica can handle the Markdown, but Diaspora still can't handle BBCode (based on my experiences in that direction).
