After doing some tests, I'd say the global menus + HUD + topbar window buttons work with around 70% of applications. Is that good? Not ideal! But the good part is that the apps that don't work with these are small apps that either don't need to be maximized or have a complex menu. The vast majority of them are like that. So we think about if we should maybe add some buttons/options for users to enable/disable the global menus + top bar window buttons + HUD.

I am also uploading a video I made about how TROMjaro XFCE works on a tablet. Probably will post it tomorrow. These days I am pretty sure we will get it to the Beta version and will add it as official on tromjaro.com. #tromlive

I managed to customize HUD for TROMjaro XFCE:

Is beyond me how this functionality is not in every Linux distro by default. I see no negative aspects of it, only positive. You either do not use it and you don't care, or you use it and care a lot. Press a single keyboard key and go through all of the menu of an app quickly, find what you need and apply. So damn useful! It is part of our distro for sure! Plus global menus.

I think we've done most of what is to be done for TROMjaro XFCE, but we have to polish it a bit here and there and test more. I plan to release a beta soonish, and beta will be added to tromjaro.com to the install page and we will change the main tromjaro.com page to reflect TROMjaro XFCE. Plus we will release it like we do with the main ISO, with release notes and such. So that people can already use TROMjaro XFCE as their daily driver. Excited! @tromlive

Our Invidious instance is simply not reliable - ytb.trom.tf/ . I am tired of trying to find a solution to be honest. And I reported the issue to everywhere I could report it, many many times. Could be an issue with the @YunoHost packaging according to the Invidious developers. "502 Bad Gateway nginx" that's the error and we could not figure what is causing it. We have added a warning a while ago to trom.tf about this, so is not like we are not aware of it. We want to provide trade-free services that are reliable, but invidious is not one of them. SearX misfires a few times too, but 99% is working. If anyone can help here's one of the issues I opened github.com/YunoHost-Apps/invid…

What Is Trade Free? Interview with Tio from Tromsite.com

Unfortunately you have to trade your attention (ads) to listen to it (a bit ironical), but hey it is great that we can get to talk about these ideas with new minds. Thank you Joey for the invitation and for the good questions.

We are releasing TROMjaro XFCE Aplha 2 for testing, if anyone is interested.

We did a bunch of improvements for workspaces, global menus + maximized windows, backups, the default apps and how they work, sessions and more. If you think MacOS or Windows are cool, check out TROMjaro XFCE hehe :). And it is trade-free!

See our updates here tromjaro.com/tromjaro-xfce-alp…

You can grab the ISO from there. #tromlive

Here's TROMjaro XFCE with proper global menu that extend to to top bar + window buttons on the top bar, and HUD. All was so easy to setup.

I want TROMjaro to be both beautiful and functional! As someone who is obsessed with keeping things neat but also have them being efficient, I think global menus and top bar window integrations, plus HUD, are doing exactly that. I edit videos and photos and I want to take advantage of my screen as much as possible. And now I can. Window top bar makes no sense when it is maximized and you already have a top panel. Unity did it well. Fortunately I could replicate that on XFCE. And HUD I keep on telling everyone, is the most useful tool I came across so far.

Ok I need to go out a little I am getting too obsessed with XFCE hahaha. #tromlive

We are releasing a new and different TROMJaro and we need people to test it. We want to give up Gnome and move to XFCE. Read more about it here https://www.tromjaro.com/tromjaro-xfce-alpha/ where you can also find the test ISO.

Basically it looks similar to the TROMjaro Gnome, but should be much faster, well built, has global menus, HUD, and more awesome stuff. Please give it a try and tell us what you think! #tromlive

Tomorrow I am invited to a radio/podcast to talk about the trade-free idea. That's very cool! Someone discovered our trom.tf and is interested in this trade-free approach. The episode should be out in about a week.

On another note I made progress with our TROMjaro XFCE version. So far so amazingly great. I am more convinced that we will give up Gnome and move to XFCE. Old users should not be worried. We will provide support for the TROMjaro Gnome indefinitely :D. We plan to make an XFCE version that is very similar to the Gnome one, to the point of not even being able to tell them apart. But, ofc, will be much faster and probably stable. Plus global menus and HUD. And a second version that will look and behave quite the same but will have almost no apps preinstalled, or some very light versions of those apps.

@Xantulon , @Future is FOSS and @Alexio are helping with these. Wonderful people! #tromlive

Here's the new TROMjaro XFCE I work on, with global menus and HUD:

How awesome! And is so easy to make it work. Tested the global menus for many apps, all work. Will test HUD more and try to style it to blend with the theme we use. It is 10 times easier to create an ISO with XFCE than with Gnome, and on Gnome I could never properly add global menus or HUD. It was always a hacking thing and never really worked.

I am blown away by XFCE! I plan to release 2 ISOs with TROMjaro XFCE for anyone to test, soonish. One is a default TROMjaro with all of the goodies installed and setup, and one is super minimal for older computers and such. Stay tuned! #tromlive

I got so trapped with this XFCE thing haha....I need to take a break. So far it looks really great and maybe we will only release TROMjaro XFCE instead of Gnome. But this will be a months long process and a slow transition. I need to get out a bit haha. I lived in the computer almost exclusively for the past 3 days. Tomorrow, late at night, we will have a very interesting tromcast with @Cleo of Topless Topics - 23:30 madrid time. Here videos.trom.tf/w/ueH6HswHA1MKh…

Some updates. I managed to improve some stuff for the TROM II Kdenlive project and many videos work a lot smoother. But have to thinker more with it. That's great!

Also, got to play a lot more with our TROMjaro XFCE version and man o man....I had no clue how awesome XFCE is. And for the first time in 5-6 years of using Gnome, I am thinking to move there. Here's how my TROMjaro XFCE looks like:

Yes that is a proper left side dock back with window preview and ability to display opened apps per display or workspace basis. And YAS that is a global menu that I setup in like 5 minutes - I struggled to do that on Gnome since Unity left the scene. Works with many apps, but a few do not. In any case, fuck ton better than the Gnome hack I've been trying for the past year. The desktop is bloody fast even in a VM, and to customize it you hardly have to install anything. It is built in. What would I miss from Gnome!?....idk....

So I am really thinking to fully switch to XFCE for myself and TROMjaro by default....but have to test it more and more. #tromlive

Some 45 minutes in with TROM II. So far so great. I personally love it. I cannot wait to work tomorrow all day on it. It is a personal documentary but with some very important messages. Maybe is not personal tho...but we do talk about ourselves and I showcase lots of footage from our past and such. It is a different documentary than TROM II but so far feels more "catchy", easier to follow and be trapped by it, by following some of our stories and such. In any case, I hope I will be done with the first part this month. And that would be around 1h or so long. Then I start a new kind of chapter. Yah so far so great....I really like it. #tromlive
