Basically if you visit Youtube.com via Chrome, then Youtube first asks Chrome about you. Like...are you using an adblocker? If Chrome says yes, then Youtube can refuse you. Therefore you cannot visit Youtube.com unless you do what Youtube says you should do. In this case deactivating your adblocker.
Users like visiting websites that are expensive to create and maintain, but they often want or need to do it without paying directly. These websites fund themselves with ads, but the advertisers can only afford to pay for humans to see the ads, rather than robots. This creates a need for human users to prove to websites that they're human, sometimes through tasks like challenges or logins.
And this is their first point in their explanation. Of course they will fight for this. It will get harder and harder, if not impossible to block ads and trackers.
This is easily predictable when you understand that the main goal of humans on this planet is to trade. This for that. An evolution that results in big companies doing this sort of shit, even when they have more than enough.
I have been screaming about this for more than a decade. But most people do not listen. Do not want to talk about this. They make it look complicated (ad-based economics, surveillance capitalism, blah blah blah). In truth it is the same practice and incentive for Google as it is for the guy who owns a small grocery store. Stop thinking that this is an issue with big companies and billionaires. It is not. We are all, or most of us, scammers, charlatans, tricksters. On small or big levels.
What can we do about it?
First understand it. Understand why these things happen, because if you do not at best you can make some politicians approve some laws to try and stop these big players. And this does not work. We made a big book and a huge documentary all about this.

We need to understand where the problem originates (trade) and inform people about it, but also try to use alternative platforms and software, so we don't depend on this motherfuckers.
I agree. Unfortunately there aren't many alternatives. I use Firefox for many years now, but except that, what are other options that are not Chromium dependent or dependent on Firefox who receives a lot of money from Google?

@rotfarm my knowledge about this is very limited, but from what I understand Google is proposing a method for web developers to verify the integrity of users who visit their websites, so if this proposal becomes a success and people started implementing this verification on their websites then you won't be able to access those sites from firefox, unless firefox also implemented this thing in their browser.
I really hope I'm wrong here and that it won't affect firefox users.....

If you actually think about it what Google is doing here is also anticompetitive in nature, other web browsers should be given the choice to not implement their design, but how can that be with a verification system like this being put on websites we visit.

Our Teddit instance, like all others, is starting to feel the effect of the Reddit API limitation. It mostly does not work. Our Nitter now works, which is really cool. And Invidious was removed but I may bring it back on another server separate from trom.tf to not impact the IP. I'll wait to see if they find a fix for it, then I'll try it out.

These companies do not provide social networks or video platforms, they may partially provide that but in truth they are ad networks. Like a Mall that has benches, fake palm trees and recreational areas. The Mall's main purpose is to sell you shit, not for you to go there and meet with your friends and relax. Therefore these companies will do all they can to restrict the content that OTHERS have created on their platforms, so that you "go to their Mall" to watch those ads, and for them to collect your data, and grab your currency.

You know how much I bitch about this trade based society and say that almost everything revolves around it...The fact that Sasha could easily get papers if I were to have a well paid job, tells you so clearly that ALL it matters in this world is for you to be a player in the trade game. @esh How do you define trade again? For me it about energy/matter, socioeconomic status, power, resources, ... inequality. And trade is just a means for that.
Trade is one the method to distribute scarce resources between people, I would say. It has played a defining role in human societies evolution. But unfortunately, at current moment it became a global foundation and most influencing force affecting people lives and behavior. Even if at this level of development we can provide more and more resources in abundance for all people, it still has to be profitable, to be traded to keep the system work. And I would argue that status, power and inequality, all are actually by-products of trade. Artifitial limits, exagerrated marketing, false values are also helping in creation inequality or such concepts like "status", which is used mainly to trade even more "deluxe" stuff to obtain those "statuses". An entire TROM project, which is led by @Tio is about that actually, how trade might be the origin of the most problems humanity faces nowadays and what are the alternative methods of distribution (like trade-free) that may be applied to societies to make them saner and more sustainable.

Let me tell you that working on TROM II and having to find specific videos about say some tech, some places, etc. on youtube to grab some footage, was a complete misery. Not only that Youtube is full of crap, like entirely full of garbage videos created for views, many times by automated software, but Youtube also pushes these short videos they originally call "shorts".
Overall it was easier and saner 10 years ago when I made the first TROM to find footage. Today, with all of the "smartphones" and "4k 8k" kkk, you can barely find real and good quality footage.
From my tests these "AI"s are terrible. Very wrong, fed from the same BS advertising and SEO nonsense....

I may change the battery to double/triple the range. I have a 10 year old Windows tablet with TROMjaro. Works great. My headphones are some 4 years old. My laptop probably 6 years old!?

This one is not a direct consequence of trading itself, the problem here is that contracts do mention the days you have to work, but not the day you will get paid.
I wish you were right. But you are not. There are countless of examples that I personally know, where it states in the contract when you have to be paid, and they were not. So often it is tiring. And it is a consequence of trade since it makes humans prioritize their own selves, so those "bosses" do not care much about their "slaves".
Also, in the contract it is mentioned you need to work only 8h a day, but many times you work more than that.
All of these agreements, written or verbal, will never be respected simply because the trade relationship between the "boss" and the "worker" is imbalanced towards the "boss" who has a lot more power.
And stuff like this is why I'm so thankful for working in a team and having a union. My team covers in case of emergency leave and my union makes sure they paycheck isn't late

Fake Famous is a 2021 documentary film directed by Nick Bilton. It is a social experiment involving three non-famous people who attempt to become social media influencers by "faking" fame.
I cannot trust any company. Period. It is like trusting Coca-Cola to do research on the effects of sugar on health. Any company is entangled with whatever they are selling. This entanglement is too strong. Even if there are any companies that seem to be more fair, in the long term they will fuck things up. I've seen this countless of times. Also, overall looking at the entire world-wide society, even if you may get a few more "fair" companies, overall most are corrupted and fucked up.
So yeah, companies should not even exist in a saner society. We should have organizations that do things. Plant trees, make computers, software, whatever. Like we showcase here. But no trade involved.

Above Sydney so that everyone can see them...and loud music....so still noise pollution. What about those batteries and components for these thousands of drones that are used for such shows? Where do they go after not working anymore? Probably land-fields...
Ok ok....I know, nothing can end up well in a trade-based society. Everything gets traded, and thus marketed. Nothing is what it seems. A drone show is not just a drone show, it is an opportunity to advertise. A book is not just a book, it is an opportunity for the author to buy a new car. A piece of software is not just a piece of software, it is a way for the developer/company to collect more data, to then transform that into currency, to then transform that into holidays, houses, and fancy shit and so on for themselves.
This is the most fundamental thing that everyone should understand about our society, that we are forced and incentivized to trade. Very few people can afford to, or are willing to do things for the sake of doing things. And of course this creates a very messed-up society when you do something in order to get something else. We did that in school where the goal was to get good grades to pass the exams. Most kinds would cheat, not learn anything, because the goal was not to learn. And so it goes for our society...the goal is not to write books, do drone shows to protect the nature, create a PDF converter or whatever. Nah....
So we should not be surprised that everything goes to shit. Pollution, waste, bad products, scammy services....
On a positive note, I'm happy they're getting rid of fireworks, I hated the loud noise, the smoke and everything. I've never seen a drone show before, so it'd be nice to see that one day.
But yeah I knew trade would get in the way, #TradeRuinsEverything - this is why we can't have nice things. So does this mean I have to watch ads in the f**king sky now ?! Why is no one talking about this ?

in reply to Rotfarm • • •@rotfarm my knowledge about this is very limited, but from what I understand Google is proposing a method for web developers to verify the integrity of users who visit their websites, so if this proposal becomes a success and people started implementing this verification on their websites then you won't be able to access those sites from firefox, unless firefox also implemented this thing in their browser.
I really hope I'm wrong here and that it won't affect firefox users.....
