TROM.tf server updated to the latest Yunohost and Debian. However our Matrix server is currently not working, probably lots of database migrations are still on the way. Hopefully in a few hours it should work, if not there is some work to do to fix it.
TROM Send is not working - will see what can be done about that. For now it has been removed.
And we have removed our Pixelfed instance. It was setup for testing purposes and I, Tio do not have time to manage it. Plus the YNH package is not very up to date. Lastly, we are running very low on diskspace for TROM.tf so we need to only keep relevant and useful services.
If in the future someone from TROM wants to manage a Pixelfed instance we can fire one up ;).
There is a lot of work for TROM behind the scenes, so you know!
Troubleshooting, troubleshooting, troubleshooting..... It is always more work than you think, programming is hard and all but testing and troubleshooting is what actually takes up a lot of time, it drives me mad sometimes. So yeah, I imagine the "behind the scenes" work on managing TROM is harder than people think.
Lots of server work these days...many webape servers to update to the latest Yunohost plus debian. And I am failing to update our main tromsite.com server because of dependency issues....pretty bad situation. But this is what I'm doing these days: server work plus making video for TROMhome in parallel.
We will explain why we decide to go for a "dry" toilet instead of a cassette one in another video, but taking this toilet out revealed the nightmare for motorhomers: rotten wood. Water infiltration. But we fixed it! 😃

You make a video about cleaning up the waste, and that's something important and is done by good people, but then you post on Youtube and they show you first an ad about fast fashion.
Tell me this is not the most ironic thing. Same as selling hard-copy books about deforestation on Amazon.
And this is not to blame anyone, but please if you have other options use those too, like Peertube or making your books digital.
If you are making content about restoring nature we invite you to our Peertube instance videos.trom.tf - no ads or any bullshit like that.
Let's be reasonable people and at least try. Youtube is an ad-company and if we want to cut down from this insane consumerism we should try to avoid Youtube or at least use adblockers.
That's how I spent my year 2024 in nature & wildlife conservation. In this video is overview of all projects, events and activities I participated and volunteered. I think it was a good year. What about yours ???

@Dima this is how your videos look on Youtube for most people:
Before they watch a video about volunteering, restoring nature, cutting down the waste and so forth, they will watch very attractive ads for buying shit, Big Macs, harmful and wasteful products. I find that beyond outrageous.
So I think we should try to push your Peertube channel more. Maybe you can tell me what format are you saving your videos in so I can look what may be the issue with uploading them to Peertube. We have uploaded thousands of videos to Peertube and everything works great.
We should change these habits too of posting on these ad-network. I get it about the reach, but in parallel we should give these alternatives platforms a try too.
That's why people should use adblocker. I forgot that there are ads on youtube, been using adblocker for years now. I don't get people who watch a lot of videos there, and yet don't have ad blocker or paid subscription.
Peertube was perfect when it was linking my videos automatically from youtube channel.
I render them in .mov format 4k, h265. I think h264 format is what peertube don't like
Yes but many people dont use. Especially on mobile is virtually impossible to block them unless you use something else than youtube like newpipe. Yes Peertube was perfect when it autoimported the youtube videos but youtube is blocking that now....so it is hard to fix it. Youtube is a total cunt.
Weird about the format since we uploaded the same formatted videos. If you have any of your videos somewhere in this original format maybe send a link to grab it so I can test.
Personally I'm also worried that these adblockers will stop working one day, especially now that YouTube is trying hard to get rid of them. So it's a temporary solution at best.
Starting to do the TROM work now :) - I am in Romania for a month or so before we go back and start the TROMhome adventure. A new TROMjaro ISO is out forum.tromjaro.com/t/tromjaro-… ! More updates to follow!
Thank you Donald for becoming our 97th TROM Supporter! :) tromsite.com/donate More and more people are joining in :). Let's see maybe we get half way, 100, by the end of the year.
Congratulations for #xfce 4.20 🎉 There are a lot of changes 👏 and all for the best with no loss of functionality 🤩. All with a very limited team size 🤏 and relative small timeframe since 4.18. Looking forward to test this on my #manjaro. I may compile 🤔 all the components (from AUR recipes) if I cannot wait 😄
Very nice! Have been running it on Linux Mint 22.1 beta with no issues. Have been a Cinnamon die-hard for years, but I'm starting to prefer Xfce with this release.
Planting trees in Germany with Bergwaldprojekt. In November I was in Munich planting beech trees in a spruce forest. One of the reasons it's because beech tree can hold way more underground water than a spruce. And forests like this one supply about 70% of the drinking water to Munich youtu.be/780EM7T2i3Y

Great video @Dima ! Very positive as usual. I am always curious to watch them and to see how many good people are out there doing important work. You are not posting on Peertube anymore? Maybe if that's too difficult for you I can help you soon and I can try to post them there too. I will put a lot of effort into growing that platform very very soon.
Thanks Tio. Yes, sure if you want to deal with Peertube it's ok. For some reasons it doesn't like my standard format, and I need to reformat it specially for Peertube, and no one watches the videos there except you, so it's a bit too much effort. But if you want to do it, then of course.
@Dima, I'm watching your videos on PeerTube. I haven't seen them all yet, but will continue as time allows. You are doing great work - thank you! Keep it up!
Simon is the 96th TROM Subscriber :) Thank you! tromsite.com/donate/ - We need some 100 more people to donate 5 Euros a month to support all of our TROM projects, We are almost half way there! :)
Thank you Kershaw for becoming our new TROM supporter! We are getting close to a milestone: 100 Supporters! We need 200 supporters to donate 5 Euros a month for TROM to keep all of our projects alive. See tromsite.com/donate
For some reason this depresses me the most. More than reading about Dr. Fucking Oz becoming part of the healthcare system administration in the USA. (source)
USA's healthcare system is a joke in terms of providing healthcare for people. It is a for-profit business, that's all. So making it worse is not something that depresses me that much especially since I live in Europe and I get great free healthcare. But to see NASA being run by those who want to exploit the space....when NASA is by far the leading agency in space, is quite depressing.
The Idiocracy is here, led by no other than the United States of America.
"economics" is a very detached from reality concept. NASA just needs a taxi to do the important work. SpaceX failed to deliver on their promises and contracts with NASA from what I know, but regardless their "achievements" are hyped to the extreme. NASA space shuttle was also reusable and other rockets before that.
So the "costs" of the launches are a human made up invention of course, based on imaginary money and wrong priorities. We could easily divert a lot of human potential and resources into making these space exploration missions cost nothing, if we were a smart society.
SpaceX, Musk, and the like (billionaires) are simply making space into yet another market and brag about how much "progress" they are doing. Disgusting indeed.
I do contemplate about "economics isn't real" - I wrote 2 books about it. tromsite.com/books/#flipbook-t… and tromsite.com/trombooks/#flipbo… - Economics is human imagination going bad. Letting the fantasy of money (trade) rule over important things. Instead of asking how much it costs to to do this or that, we should see how we can do it efficiently.
As for which space taxi is more efficient, I do not care in terms of "economics" but real importance like what is it done with that space-taxi? Put more commercial satellites into the orbit? Go exploit space? Put the rich into orbit?
Your communism-word-salad may be a sign of you being too trapped into the fantasy world humans have invented, one that is very harmful. From climate change to slavery, useless products and waste. "money" is a human invention, of course. And if we are not to see this we have no chance to detach from its bad influence on us.
When humans put prices on a banana or a rocket launch, these prices rarely reflect the reality of resources, human costs, or even more so importance. We made a whole documentary about it tromsite.com/documentaries/tro…
If you follow the "spaceflight" flavor of the human activity on Earth, and you think we are making "progress", what does progress mean to you in that context?
We "obey" this human invention and this is a terrible thing as you can see around you. It is not at all a measure of efficiency. There is no efficiency that the USA imports 95% of the clothes from abroad or you eat tomatoes from across the continent just because is "cheaper" to grow them there and ship over to you. This system is a mess.
As for spaceflight sure you can measure the fuel consumption as a more relevant efficiency progress, but it is no progress if those rockets transport rich people into space, or more commercial satellites. That's where I fee many people fail to make sense of this system. They simply look at these measurements of fuel efficiency and so forth, but not the overall picture.
And "my economic views" are not "mine" or "views" the reality is that this global system of trade is a human made up game that is detrimental to the entire species and frankly obsolete. That's the truth.
I understand, but do you think we can still call it progress if that means we put more commercial satellites into space, more trips for rich people, or exploit other planets for materials?
Like cars are more efficient today in terms of fuel consumption but the entire "car industry" creates a terrible mess here on earth. We better make clean public transport.
SpaceX being the "industry leader" means almost nothing if you disregard the fact that they may just be a taxi for the commercialization of space. And NASA is far more than just launching rockets into space. As @Michael Vogel also said.
And this is not a "moralistic" argument between you and me, it is a fact that commercialization (most of the times) equals to destruction, abuse, and exploitation. On Earth or above ;)
I cannot accept the statement that SpaceX has "revolutionized the space access" either as a claim or a positive statement. They have built upon what NASA did before, and are helped on a daily basis by NASA (both financially and technically) from my understanding. SpaceX is heavily relying on NASA, without them they cannot exist.
I am trying to do some work from the motorhome for TROM and WebApe...I eat GB like a blue whale eats plankton. :D - I've put 100GB on my phone, using it as a hotspot. I have 50GB left now. After a few days...
This is why when we come back in January and start to live full time in the motorhome we will probably put a satellite internet with an unlimited plan. Mobile plans suck - only available per tribe....and in Europe, living in a motorhome, makes 0 sense.
We've also ordered 260W more of solar panels. We already have 260W on the roof that we put ourselves. Plus a new 1280W lifepo4 lithium battery. We decided to have enough power and be fully broke. It is what it is.
But feels great to get back online bit by bit. Doing my "normal" work. And doing it from here:
