I first made TROMjaro for my parents and friends so that they can install a nicely looking and functional Linux distro. Like I focus on making it very easy to use: click an audio file, it opens with a simple yet functional player. Same with most files. Browse the web and see no ads and no trackers track you. Wanna record your screen? Press a key and type record and record. Want to watch our VideoNeat documentaries? Click the magnet button and watch them. Want to install an app? Open the Add/Remove software and search and install. AUR and flatpaks are enabled by default. And so on.

I made it easy to use. Plus we only promote trade-free applications. No BS free trials, give me money, give me your data, and so forth. We have an online library with over 600 trade-free apps that we tested tromjaro.com/apps/ . You can click install and they get installed on your TROMjaro.

Plus global menus, HUD, automated backups and more tromjaro.com/

Ok Friendica updated. So far so good. I was really concerned since last time I updated Friendica via Yunohost shit hit the fan really badly. This time all good it seems.

Thank you @YunoHost and @Michael Vogel @Hypolite Petovan @Tobias and others that are behind these two projects. Awesome stuff!

Friendica now has scheduled posts (so cool) + you can add your Matrix ID to you profile. How nice!

@Hypolite Petovan I remember you said you enabled auto load of the peertube player in the new friendica. But when I shared a Peertube video like so videos.trom.tf/w/2vBxVQTa4hfC9… it still showcases as before. No embed player. Am I missing something? #tromlive

@Tio When you put the URL of an ActivityPub posting into the search box in the nav-bar, Friendica will fetch that posting into the system (if it is not there already) and then you can interact with it normally. This way you can comment, like or share a posting like any posting you receive from a contact you are following.

For some reason your video title is imported strangely into my system, leaving some BBCode in the title(???), but when you quote-share the video and leave some text, this should be edit-able.

@Tio

IMPORTANT !

Folks we are going to update our social.trom.tf at around 00:00 Madrid time, on 20th. meaning in a few hours from this posts. We advise you to not use much any of our services in that period of time since they may be down or we may have to restore some server snapshots in case the update and restore of our social.trom.tf will fail. #tromlive

A new TROMjaro XFCE ISO is out !! tromjaro.com/releases/ . We removed Nautilus and added the XFCE file manager, THunar. The search for Thunar sucks really really bad. But they already improved it so we wait for the update. I am tired. But I am getting close to make the tromjaro train functional and running on its own. I just need to make 3 or so articles, not big. Then fix some of the apps from our library.

After that is DONE.

The next big thing is to move my own computer to this xfce version....

After that I need to update Friendica. Or before doing that...

Then TROM II ! #tromlive

oh, I must've missed the notification for this comment, sorry Michael.

Yes, I personally believe any person running a system that needs a storage path should be dedicating that path to that one thing - that would be putting way too much trust in a piece of software to have it share some path that you've put something else in. (Notice how I said 'should'... heh, I know...)

It would be easy enough to change the wording in documentation and in the admin UI to clarify that this storage location must be dedicated to friendica as it will maintain every file in it, including removing anything it does recognize as it's own.

Why would that be bad? If you use BTRF the snapshots are a instant. With RSYNC it lasts longer but you can backup to an external drive. And it only backups when core components of the system get updated. And it keeps 3 sanpshots. Will make an article about this today or tomorrow.

Yes is true using BTRF you can also use the GRUB for restore. Using RSYNC you can boot into your system, if you can still do that, open timeshift and restore from there. Or if you can't boot go into TTY and do "timeshift --restore". Or burn tromjaro on a usb drive, boot from it, and restore with timeshift from there.

Installed TROMjaro on another laptop that had the gnome version. At first the installation module was getting stuck at "partitioning". This happened to the same laptop and with manjaro or ubuntu many years ago. I realized it is the main hard drive that's problematic so I had to manually delete the partitions via Disks. It is easy click and delete basically. Rebooted the laptop, and I could then install super fast. Was able to setup this laptop so easily. I love how XFCE is so simple to use, yet so customizable and has enough settings and options yet not overwhelming.

The laptop feels faster and snappier. I managed to restore the firefox, syncthing, and other such settings quite fast, so that these apps (once you run them again) should be 100% the same they were on the old system.

Nice! #tromlive

My plans for this month:

  • Install TROMjaro on 2-3 more devices. Move them from TROMjaro gnome to xfce.
  • Move my main machine to the new TROMjaro and make a video about it to showcase how I do it.
  • Make 3 articles for tromjaro.com: one about how to backup your system and files properly, another about how to properly change the themes, and another about how to move form tromjaro gnome to tromjaro xfce.
  • Release a new TROMjaro XFCE ISO
  • Update Friendica and Peertube

Only after am doing these I'll be properly ready to get into TROM II mood and work again. But I also enjoy the above! ;)

I will try to do an IDGAS Friday tomorrow - I Don't Give A Shit Friday basically. Haven't had these in a while...then moving to TROM II work finally! @Dima also wants to do a video with me like he did with @Sasha so that's great, we will record soonish. I am also planing to release a beta 2 for our TROMjaro XFCE. We are switching to as many XFCE defaults as possible, replacing Nautilus and the Gnome terminal with Thunar (with some configs) and the XFCE terminal. I still have to install it these days on 2 more computers, maybe 3. For testing and general use. So far the tablet works fantastic with XFCE. So fast so smooth.

Can't wait to also move my computer to it. Maybe I'll do it these days.

Everything else is ok. #tromlive

I upgraded our main server that hosts all of our websites except trom.tf. From 6 cores, 16GB of RAM, and 400GB SSD, to 8 cores, 30GB of RAM, and 800GB SSD. We were hitting the limit with this one, our processes were killed daily and the storage space was 95% full. We host all of our files here via our Nextcloud. So yah, happy!

Just 8 more euros a month, almost exactly as much as we paid for musikwave.com and since I will close that one in a month or so, then is all good. At least now our main server should be good for the next many years. #tromlive

Big thanks to @Future is FOSS @Xantulon and @Alexio who helped with the release of TROMjaro XFCE! They test it, help us create custom scripts, and more. All about the release here tromjaro.com/tromjaro-xfce-bet…
