@Aaron is going to present TROM tomorrow in Hamburg at the Chaotic Computer Club event. Unfortunately he only has a small, few minutes long opportunity to present the project in a workshop-like way. We tried to get TROM to the main event but there were too many applying (over 600) so we were no accepted. We will try next year.

But awesome that Aaron is there and he is trying to spread the message.

If we will have any videos and photos we will share with you on our Friendica :)

Saturday 30st, 21:00

TROM II: A Message to The Aliens (documentary) - tromsite.com/documentaries/tro…

Now fully subtitled into Spanish, making it available to many millions of people who only speak spanish. All thanks to the wonderful Rafa and Vicky, and Cesar.

The amount of work to subtitle such a documentary in a professional way is quite intense and these people are doing it without asking anything in return. That's how we all should be. To do the things we feel are important and not worry about how to survive on this planet.

If you want to help us translate the documentary in more languages please contact us. tromsite.com/contact/

Wow. @emilymbender, University of Washington computational linguist, deconstructs algorithmic tools, aka automation.

“#AI” is a marketing term dating to the 1950s, when it was employed to secure research dollars.

What is being automated?
By whom and why?
Who benefits?
Who is being harmed?
How well does it work?
Who is accountable?
What laws/regulations apply to what is being automated?

Well worth the ~5 minute investment

‘The Gospel’: how Israel uses AI to select bombing targets in Gaza

And here we are, folks, using the modern tech to kill people more effectively. Don't forget to ask the chatgpt which people of what part of the world deserve to be anihilated today, while consuming your morning coffee..

And yeah, there's something utterly disgusting and barbaric in naming their war AI in the name of religion, the holy crusades are back..

Crazy, fucked up world we live in..

100% agree with you ofc!

TROM II: 4. Hope

Despite the fact that humans have created so much misery, so much destruction, so many mountains of waste, and wasted so many brains for the past thousands of years, there is some hope in sight. But to understand and harness that hope, they must take a giant step back and look at their society from an alien perspective.

They have to let go of what they think is normal and try to undress the layered society they have created, to see the naked reality behind it all. Only then can hope be understood. Only then, the understanding of hope can become the bedrock for change.

Oh wow, indeed! Great choice, my friend! I didn't remember it from multiple times I watched the documentary, but I love it even more now 😌

Annular Solar Eclipse "Ring of Fire" hits the North America continent.

Watch it live at NASA's official broadcast: youtu.be/LlY79zjud-Q

in reply to Roma

I missed the live but saw some of the replays. It is always astonishing to me that the alignment of the moon and the sun and their sizes are so damn good, that allows s to observer such rare events.
in reply to Tio

Yup, mesmerizing.. And even the fact that these exact parameters - the sizes of the Moon and the Sun and the distances between them and Earth, allow to observe full or annular eclipses from the surface how they are, is so unique to our planet. There's no other planet in our solar system which allows to see such a perfect coverage of the sun by its moon or moons.
in reply to Roma

yup that's what I was saying - quite something. ofc nothing compares to seeing it in reality. did you see any full solar eclipse directly?
in reply to Tio

Yeah, I've seen one, but only partial. It was still surreal tho, seeing how it becomes way darker in the mid of the day 🤯 And you?
in reply to Roma

Yes I saw a full one when I was 12. I remember even now. Quite vividly. Yeah so bizarre to see day transform into night so quickly. I'd love to see one now through my telescope :D
in reply to Tio

@tio
I was told that you're not supposed to look at a solar eclipse directly without using special eclipse glasses to protect your eyes, be safe guys! 🙃
@Tio
in reply to Rokosun

We had special googles. You can't even look at it that well without googles.
in reply to Roma

@Roma @Tio

You know why the moon can perfectly cover the sun during a solar eclipse? There's nothing mysterious about it, the moon is actually getting further away from Earth as its orbit grows about 1.5 inches larger every year, it's just that all of us happen to live around the exact time where earth and moon are at the right distance away to make total solar eclipse possible - a wonderful coincide 🙂 However this also means we won't always have this kind of eclipse forever as the moon gets further away from earth.

TROM II: 1. Humans

What does Romania, Russia, Latvia, Germany, and the United States have in common? A planet, and the human imagination. We imagine borders, nationalities, and differences. In truth we are all very much the same. We grow up in a culture, we watch the same TV, listen to the same music, follow similar traditions. We are "educated" and "trained" by institutions that are rarely questioned by the masses.

So how does a newborn human become someone in this culture of humans? And how does the human-invented world contrast with the vast universe we are part of?

Faroe Islands - Should you visit or boycott ? Consider this first!

I've spent few weeks in Faroe Islands volunteering and learning about the Grindadrap tradition.
Which is obsolete in modern society and should be banned and forgotten. But it's not happening.
What can we do and if there is a chance to change it?

I am very grateful for organizations which are there on a ground trying to protect pilot whales and Atlantic white sided dolphins. Bunch of brave people acting when politicians and governments keeping quiet.

To support, donate, volunteer and find more information : paulwatsonfoundation.uk

A mesmerizing image of the protostar by JWST

This Herbig-Haro 211 (HH 211) object image depicts a Class 0 protostar in the state that our Sun could be when it was a few tens of thousands of years old.

I was thinking recently how fascinating is the fact that something beautiful and unique like our Earth can be born out of probably one of the most powerful, horrific and destructive events in the Universe - a Supernova. Indeed, the scale of those events isn't even comparable with what we experience in everyday life. Any of these happening relatively close to us and everything we know would be annihilated within the seconds.. Another reminder how fragile our world is and what unique opportunity we have here, simply wasting it on meaningless fights, trades, money..

The plans for the next weeks:

- Update our Friendica and test to make sure everything works fine
- Move our Peertube storage to an object storage so we free up space on our server. Currently we are at the limit when it comes to storage. Using an object storage allows us to scale up.
- Add Pixelfed to our TROM.tf services
- Release a new TROMjaro

All of these require a lot of time and resources. So it make take more than just weeks.

If you can support this work and can donate 5 Euros a month, maybe you can join the 200 for TROM tromsite.com/donate/ - currently there are some 30 people supporting us and we only need 170 more to make TROM forever sustainable :)

Our ZDay presentation is now translated into 4 languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Czech and Catalan videos.trom.tf/w/d5wwwrwGD7D3E…

Kudos to the people who are translating these TROM videos without anyone asking them to do so or how to do it. At TROM we work in this decentralized and more emerging style: people can get involved with whatever they can, and do it on their own.

We only provide some tools and platforms, like our Translation Matrix chat matrix.to/#/#translation:matri…

Amazing people. One of them actually, Lenka, we meet at ZDay. She came because of TROM and she quickly became our friend.

Now she made the Czech subtitle for the presentation and she wants to work on the entire TROM II documentary to subtitle it into Czech. Awesome people!
