The new Thunderbird is not great

reshared this

in reply to Tio

The 2 search bars have been a thing for years long before this update. The difference being that the filter bar only searches the current folder (and only headers by default), while the main one searches everything.
in reply to Mark

Having them both enabled by default is bad. Should have thought of a different design. Also, if I didn't have the "main search bar" before the update, prob Thunderbird should not have enabled it. Especially on the giant GTK4 topbar.
in reply to Tio

I managed to bring back my email accounts and settings by copying some folders files from the old config account....very very bad situation. Anyway, on a more positive side some things do look more polished. But not respecting the system's theme, and fonts, and window decorations is terrible.

15 people are already helping us achieve the 200 for TROM donation campaign - https://www.tromsite.com/donate/

Mind you this approach may take some time to achieve, but we have to in order to keep TROM alive and sustainable. Only 5 Euros donations are accepted, so that we can spread the load on 200 people in order to make sure that we get this support for a long long time, and that we do not put any pressure on any individual to donate a large amount of money.

Please, consider donating 2 cups of coffee to TROM and the so many projects we have.

As of today I am a certified diver :) . Open Water Diver. The first level, but still, awesome. And actually I got the course for free kinda, which is great. Very nice people. Friends of Sasha :). I am very happy that I can go dive more now. And I will have to check for my stomach health issues more but as long as I control my diet all should be fine.

To be underwater and breath, is such an amazing feeling. The closest you get to flying. And last dive we saw some very cool sponges, and other creatures. Next time I'll try to get the gopro and record some stuff. Humans should do these things for free, so they understand more about our place on this planet.

Its good to see the big pharma getting more scrutiny from a comparatively more mainstream/reputable media like DW, this may encourage more scientists and researchers to speak up about these problems and voice their concerns.

news for chrome users.....stop using chrome or browsers based on chrome
in reply to Rotfarm

I agree. Unfortunately there aren't many alternatives. I use Firefox for many years now, but except that, what are other options that are not Chromium dependent or dependent on Firefox who receives a lot of money from Google?

I just didnt want to say "use firefox" but Oprah?
in reply to Rotfarm

Opera is a multi-platform web browser developed by its namesake company Opera.[11][12][13] The browser is based on Chromium, but distinguishes itself from other Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, etc.) through its user interface and other features.

in reply to Rotfarm

@rotfarm my knowledge about this is very limited, but from what I understand Google is proposing a method for web developers to verify the integrity of users who visit their websites, so if this proposal becomes a success and people started implementing this verification on their websites then you won't be able to access those sites from firefox, unless firefox also implemented this thing in their browser.

I really hope I'm wrong here and that it won't affect firefox users.....

in reply to Aral Balkan

@aral @rotfarm Maybe organizations like EFF would fight against this, that's my only hope now. If you actually think about it what Google is doing here is also anticompetitive in nature, other web browsers should be given the choice to not implement their design, but how can that be with a verification system like this being put on websites we visit.

in reply to Tio

@rotfarm Where “a lot of” = ~half a billion dollars every year = if Google stopped paying them tomorrow, they’d be bankrupt the next day = totally dependent on Google for their existence.
in reply to Aral Balkan

@aral so an important question here that needs to be asked......if there is an absance of alternatives, why aren't people making them? Is it defeatism? No profit? This doesn't seem to stop most FOSS projects from being made, so why not make a web browser?
in reply to Rotfarm

@rotfarm A web browser is a huge undertaking. No reason why the EU couldn’t fund an independent organisation to make one, though. (Apart from lack of political will and a myopic insistence on framing everything through the lens of “The Single Market.”)
in reply to Tio

Webkit browsers. Epiphany, Midori, Safari...

Edit: apparently Midori is no longer among them, switched to Electron.

Is there no kanban app for Linux that runs locally and it is decent? I only know about Topsi tromjaro.com/topsi/ and even that's archived for the past 2 years....

Rokosun reshared this.

in reply to Tio

I think you're running into kanban's intention to be a group collaborative app. It's not intended to be run for a single person, which I think is unfortunate
in reply to Xantulon :mastodon: :pixelfed:

Yes you are right. In a way I totally understand, but would be nice to have a few that run locally/offline. I am now using Vikunja vikunja.io/ - they have an app for it for Linux and I have an account with our own hosted Vikunja - tasks.trom.tf/. Still relies on a server, ours, but it is the best I could find :)

I am not sure what you are even trying to hint at. The fact that climate change may be responsible for these high and low extremes?

Oh there we go....I could sense the stupidity, the smell was in the air, I just needed a confirmation. Ok then, please ignore reality, go on your own adventure. If you push more I'll just block you.

How I cool down my laptop and why?

Rokosun reshared this.

The biggest achievement for me via TROM, is by far the few friends that I made because of the project. These humans are so rare and wonderful I can't even explain it. Scientifically minded, kind, fun, interesting. They are so friendly and comfortable to be around. I do not think TROM has the power to change the world, and I hope I am wrong and I will keep on trying, BUT TROM has changed my life completely.

One decision, 13 years ago. And now I have the best friends in the world.

For me it was totally worth it and unexpected. And I am sure I will meet more of these wonderful brains.

I never thought I would like a fucking fan so much....but I bought a 7Euro one to keep my laptop cool and I am impressed by it haha. I will even make a short article about it, because it is about how I keep my laptop cool and how those special laptop fan-stands are BS. Maybe more expensive ones are ok, but under 20Euros are crap. I just use a normal fucking fan :)

But yah wtf I never thought I'd like a fucking fan so much haha.

Ok so I see that the official Libreddit is shutting down github.com/libreddit/libreddit… because of Reddit's API changes. Teddit or other ones are also dead. You know, in a way for me personally I think this is positive because lately I spent too much time on Reddit via Teddit. I never used Reddit before Teddit. So yeah, for me it is a better thing. I don't need to see the oddities of the world so much haha. Better focus on other things.

Our Teddit instance, like all others, is starting to feel the effect of the Reddit API limitation. It mostly does not work. Our Nitter now works, which is really cool. And Invidious was removed but I may bring it back on another server separate from trom.tf to not impact the IP. I'll wait to see if they find a fix for it, then I'll try it out.

Reddit, Twitter, Youtube....these ad-platforms that do not like when the content created by their users, not themselves, is accessed for free.

Our Nitter instance works again thanks to some magic that the developers have done. We rely on it for our Illustrations part of TROMnews https://tromnews.com/illustrations/ and generally for RSS purposes. Twitter is trying hard to not let anyone use their "assets" (website) without being logged in, tracked, abused with ads, or pay a membership on the website. Trade-Incentives.

Ok so we are happy that https://bird.trom.tf/ is working again. However for how long no one knows probably. #tromlive

Tomorrow the 12th at 7PM Madrid time, we will do a TROMcast about the recently released TROM II documentary: A Message to the Aliens. Everyone is free to participate. We will have most of the "cast" of the documentary and the live will go to our Peertube, here https://videos.trom.tf/w/n6jXRKRZi3BnxDB9KFC5Pv

You can participate via our live chat or join us for the video call (we will share the link shortly after the live will start).
